[plant morphology] taro
Perennial herbs. Tubers ovate to oblong, brown, ciliate, subterranean. The leaves are basal, usually 4-6 in clusters; the leaf body is wide, thick, oval, broadly elliptic, about 30-50 cm long, entire, wavy, apex short and sharp, base auricular, ear blunt, only end round, leaf surface green, smooth, waterproof; petiole fleshy, long and fat, green or light green purple, base sheath. There are 1-4 flower stems, which are drawn out from the base of leaf sheath, each with an inner inflorescence, and are about 30 cm long. Buddha flame bract about 20 cm long, light yellow. The fleshy inflorescence is oval in the bract, shorter than the Buddha flame bract, with short appendages; the upper part has most yellow male flowers, accounting for half of the inflorescence; the lower part has green female flowers, accounting for about 1 / 4 of the inflorescence; the neutral flowers are located in the middle, also accounting for 1 / 4 of the inflorescence. The flowering period is August.
It is cultivated in the South and north provinces of China.
