Shrubs or small trees, up to 10 m high. The bark is grayish brown and the young branches have obvious lenticels. Leaves leathery, glossy, obovate oblong, 7-14 cm long, glabrous on both sides; lateral veins 7-11 pairs; petioles 6-8 mm long, slightly pilose; flowers small, solitary, apetalous, dioecious; male inflorescence terminal or lateral inflorescence with a few branches, 6-12 cm long; calyx 4-lobed; stamens 3; female inflorescence racemose, 5-12 cm long, on top of branches; calyx 4-lobed; stamens 3-lobed Green, light cup-shaped: ovary 1-locular, style 3. Drupe subglobose, ca. 8 mm in diam., red. Slightly flat after drying, with wrinkles. The flowering and fruiting period is summer and autumn.
Born in sparse or dense forest. It is distributed from Guangdong to Yunnan.
