The underground bulb is ovoid, 1.5-2.5 cm long, with many layers of red membranous scales, and many slender golden brown villi in each. Leaves usually 2, linear, up to 30 cm long, flat, obliquely ascending or retrovolved, apex pointed, entire, base decurrent, sheath shaped, with parallel veins, smooth on both sides, glabrous, green above, reddish near base. Floral stems 1-3, weak; bracts 2, opposite; flowers solitary at stem end, campanulate, erect, spreading; perianth 6, long and narrow elliptic lanceolate, white, with reddish purple longitudinal stripes on the back; stamens 6, 3, long and 3, short, pistil 1, ovary elliptic. Capsule triangular obovate. The flowering period is from February to March.

Born in the wild. It is distributed in the Yangtze River Basin of China.

In addition, there are also Yili plants of the same genus. The underground bulbs are spherical and covered with multilayer Brown membranous scales; the aboveground stems are erect and unbranched.
