[plant morphology] Impatiens balsamina
Herbs perennial, ca. 60 cm tall. The roots are well developed, fleshy, rhizome like, or round or oval tuberous roots. Stem fleshy, nodes swollen, branched, green with purplish red, hairy. Leaves alternate, ovate, ovate elliptic or elliptic lanceolate, 6-16 cm long, apex pointed, base rounded, decurrent, margin serrate, teeth with very fine linear lobes. Inflorescence racemose, axillary; pedicel base with 1 oblique ovate bract; sepal 3, middle 1 lower, saccate, extra large, extending backward to form curving, yellow, small on both sides, green; petal 5, yellow, upper 1 petal erect, 2 petals on each side healed into 1; stamen 5, filaments white, anthers healed around the top of pistil; pistil 1, ovary long cylindrical, 5-locular. Capsule, horny, long fusiform. The flowering period is from June to July.
It grows in mountain forest, water depression and wet place near flowing water. It is distributed in the northeast and southwest of China.
