[plant morphology] eggplant, also known as three sisters, warm leaf root, hairy leaf tree, earth eggplant and husband beard.

Deciduous shrub, 1-3 meters high, bark gray white. Leaf blade broad ovate or elliptic, 6-25 cm long, 4-14 cm wide, papery, soft, entire, apex acuminate, base short pointed or rounded, green above, pale below, sparsely stellate hairs, main veins raised, lateral veins 7-10 pairs, veins densely covered with stellate hairs; stalk 3-6 cm long. 2-dichotomous cyme, terminal or near terminal, 5-10 cm long, flowers slightly dense, stem with stellate hairs; calyx grayish green, 5-lobed, persistent, about 5 mm long, with grayish white stellate hairs on the surface; corolla white, light bell shaped, about 1.3 cm in diameter; stamen 5, inserted on corolla throat, anther yellow, apical aperture split; pistil 1, stigma round, ovary superior, 2-locular, ovule numerous. Berry fleshy, globose, pale yellow, ca. I cm in diameter. The seeds are small, oblate and white. The flowering period is summer and autumn. The fruit period is winter.

Born in the village, slope, wilderness. It is distributed in the South and southwest of China.

[pharmacological action] ① effects on smooth muscle and skeletal muscle

When the water extract of leaves or whole grass (with alcohol to remove precipitates) was 0.013 g fresh drug / ml, it could cause contraction of isolated guinea pig ileum, the intensity of which was 65% of the maximum contraction caused by acetylcholine. Atropine and ergoyldiethylamine (BOL) could partially block the contraction. However, the contraction caused by acetylcholine, histamine and barium chloride were reduced by 60%, 60% and 30% respectively. The decoction had no obvious effect on ileum. The water extract can increase the tension of isolated rabbit duodenum, and then produce spasm. The decoction had mild excitatory effect on isolated rat uterus and Toad rectus abdominis.

② Effects on cardiovascular system

The results showed that the water extract caused cardiac insufficiency in vitro, and then recovered gradually. The decoction had no significant effect on hind limb perfusion test in rats. Intravenous injection of anesthetized dogs can reduce blood pressure

③ Effects on central nervous system

Intraperitoneal injection of water extract (5g / kg) could significantly prolong the sleep time of the mice.

[toxicity] intraperitoneal injection of 10 g fresh crude drug / kg of water extract in mice caused inhibition, dyskinesia and respiratory acceleration. All 5 mice died 2 hours later. For example, intravenous injection of 2.5 g fresh crude drug / kg had the same toxic symptoms as above. Clonic convulsion and death occurred in 2 of 5 mice, and the rest recovered to normal 24 hours later. The mice were intraperitoneally injected with 0.1g crude drug, and all the mice died within 24 hours.
