[source] it is the root of Gardenia jasminoides Ellis. See "water Gardenia" for plant morphology.

Sweet and smooth.

Functions and indications: antipyretic and blood cooling, sedation and pain relief, wind dispelling and dehumidification.

[prescription selection] ① treatment of jaundice, swelling and gangrene: take two to four taels of water Gardenia root, cut them up, and take them in water.

② Treatment of arthritis: water Gardenia two to four Liang, half Jin pig feet, two liang rice wine. Take it in water.

③ Treatment of toothache: water Gardenia one or two, chopped, decoction, oral or oral.
