Erect subshrub, 1-1.5m high. The whole plant is green and spicy. Leaves alternate, with glandular spots, usually oval or oval oblong, asymmetric on both sides, 10-16 cm long, 4-6 cm wide, apex acuminate, base uneven on both sides, acute on one side, slightly rounded on the other side; 7 veins; petiole short, stipules inserted in petiole sheath, connate with petiole. Flowers unisexual, dioecious; male spikes 10-22 cm long, total pedicels about 1 cm long, inflorescence axis glabrous; bracts suborbicular, sometimes apical pointed, petiolate, shield shaped, diameter about 1.5 mm, glandular spots on the surface; stamens 2, anthers reniform, 2-locular, filaments base hypertrophy. The female spikes are 8-11 cm long and 16 cm long when bearing fruit; the total pedicels are 1.5-2 cm long; the ovary is slightly compressed and attached to the inflorescence axis; the stigma is terminal and 4-lobed. Berries dense, globose, ca. 3 mm in diam. The flowering period is from February to May.
Born in the dark valley of high mountains and dense forests. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places.
