It is a perennial herb, 15-30 cm high, densely covered with gray white villi. Rhizome lignified, branched. Stems tufted, erect. Leaf blade linear oblong, 2-11 cm long, apex obtuse or apiculate, base cuneate, entire. The basal leaves and lower stem leaves have long stalks, the middle and upper stem leaves have no stalks, and the base extends into stem wings; the head inflorescences are numerous, gathered into compound corymbose; the involucre is bell shaped, 5-8 mm in diameter, several layers of involucre, white in upper part, light brown in lower part, dry membranous; the flowers are heteroecious or dioecious, the female flowers are tubular, solid, bisexual, tubular, and fruitless. Achene yellowish brown, long cylindrical, less than 1 mm long; corolla white, one layer, coarsely hairy.

It grows on hillsides, grasslands and shrubs. It is distributed in Northwest China.
