[plant morphology] Adiantum fan leaf
Perennial herbs, 40-50 cm high. Rhizome short and erect, covered with narrowly lanceolate, acuminate scales. Petiole clustered, tough, dark brown to purplish black, shiny, base with scales, upper naked, 10-25 cm long; leaf leathery, both sides naked, irregular broad ovate, 20 cm long, 15 cm wide, 2-or 3-asymmetric bifurcated branches; central pinna largest, linear lanceolate, 10-15 cm long, 2 cm wide, blunt at the top; small pinna oblique Elliptic to fan-shaped, alternate on both sides of the axis, 1 cm long and 1.5 cm wide, with short stalks covered with hairs. The upper and outer edges are round and slightly serrated, and the lower edge is rectangular, slightly imbricate, arranged on the axis, but also sparsely; the veins are not obvious, fan-shaped; the axis is dark brown, bright, with reddish brown short setae on it. The sporangia are elliptic, growing on the top of the vein on the upper or outer edge of the pinnule, usually connected; the ascospore cap is the same shape as the sporangia, formed by the serrated inflection of the leaf margin.
Born in the shade and wet under the forest. It is distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Zhejiang, etc.

[clinical application] treatment of acute infectious hepatitis
Take 4 liang of fresh guotanlong (2 liang of dry), decoct with brown sugar, 1 dose daily, take twice. The dosage for children should be halved. Take until the symptoms disappear. Ten children with acute icteric hepatitis were treated. The general symptoms were improved in 3 days on average, jaundice subsided in 4.5 days on average, hepatomegaly reduced in varying degrees after 2 months, and liver function recovered in 28 days on average. Six cases of non icteric hepatitis in children were treated. The general symptoms were improved for an average of 3 days. After 2 months of hepatomegaly, some cases returned to normal, and the liver function recovered for an average of 28 days. Five cases of adult acute icteric hepatitis were treated. The general symptoms were improved for an average of 5 days, jaundice subsided for an average of 12.5 days, hepatomegaly was reexamined after 2 months, tenderness disappeared, hepatomegaly reduced, and liver function recovered for an average of 30 days. 40 cases of adult non icteric hepatitis were treated. After treatment, only 20 cases showed improvement in general symptoms (average 6 days). Hepatomegaly remained unchanged. Liver function returned to normal in 5 cases and improved but unstable in 10 cases. It has been proved that guotanlong is effective in the early stage of acute hepatitis, but has no obvious effect on chronic hepatitis. Although it has curative effect on non icteric hepatitis, it is not ideal. Side effects: nausea, decreased appetite, dizziness, chest tightness and other reactions appeared in some cases after taking the medicine, which disappeared after stopping the medicine.
