Deciduous shrubs or trees. Twigs and abaxial leaves usually sparsely white hairy. Leaves papery, ovate elliptic or obovate elliptic, 3-9 cm long and 2-3.5 cm wide, apex acuminate or shortly acuminate, base usually broadly cuneate, margin inflected, acutely serrate; petiole about 4-5 mm long. Flowers white, slightly aromatic, terminal or axillary panicles. Calyx without bract; sepals 5, eyelashes; petals oblong elliptic, about 5 mm long; stamens about 25, varying in length, slightly shorter than petals or tips long; style about as long as stamens, stigma not divided. Drupe obliquely ovoid globose, bluish black, ca. 6 mm long, apical 5 calyx teeth persistent. The flowering period is May. The fruit is hot in July.
Born in mountain forest. It is distributed in North China, central China and South China.
