[plant morphology] peony, also known as deer leek and mouse aunt (Ben Jing), Atractylodes macrocephala (Guang ya), Bai Liangjin and Wu Mudan (Tang Ben Cao), Mu Shaoyao (the legacy of Kaiyuan Tianbao), huawang (the record of Luoyang famous garden), Luoyang flower (Qunfang PU), tiejiaoniu.

Perennial deciduous shrub, 1-1.5m high. The rhizome is thick. The branches are short and stout. Leaves alternate, usually 2-3-compound; petiole 6-10 cm long; leaflets ovate or broadly ovate, terminal leaflets usually 3-lobed, lateral leaflets are palmately 3-lobed, dark green above, glabrous. Slightly white below, sparsely long white hairs on midrib. The flower is single at the end of branch, big shape; sepals are 5, arranged in tile shape, green; petals are 5 or more, common cultivated varieties, mostly double petal flowers, great variation, usually obovate, with notch at the top, rose color, red, purple and white; stamens are mostly, filaments are red, anthers are yellow; pistils are 2-5, green, densely short hairy, style is short, stigma is leafy; disk is cup-shaped. The fruit is an aggregate fruit with 2-5 follicles, ovoid, green, covered with short brown hairs. The flowering period is from May to July. The fruit period is from July to August.

Born in sunny and fertile soil, often cultivated in garden. Distributed in Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Gansu and other places. It is cultivated all over the country.

The root bark is cylindric or semi cylindric, with longitudinal cracks, both sides curling inward, usually 3-8 cm long and 2 mm thick. The exterior is grayish brown or purplish brown, some corks have fallen off, showing brownish red, with fibrous root marks and protruding pores; the interior surface is light brown or grayish yellow, with longitudinal fine texture and shiny crystals. It is hard and brittle, with uneven section, or powdery, light yellow and reddish. It has a special aroma, slightly bitter and astringent, slightly numb tongue.

② Shaving dandelion

Also known as: Pink cortex (Diannan materia medica), the surface is slightly rough, pink. The others are the same as the original Cortex Moutan.

For the above two kinds of medicinal materials, the best ones are thick and long strips, thick skin, full powder, strong aroma and many crystalline substances.

It is mainly produced in Anhui, Sichuan, Gansu, Shaanxi, Hubei, Hunan, Shandong, Guizhou and other places. In addition, it is also produced in Yunnan and Zhejiang. Sichuan and Anhui have the largest output. Fenghuangshan in Tongling, Anhui Province is the best, which is called Fengdan PI; Nanling in Anhui Province is called Yaodan PI; Dianjiang and Guanxian in Sichuan Province are called Chuandan PI; Kangding and Luding in Gansu, Shaanxi and Sichuan Province are called Xidan PI; Xichang in Sichuan Province is called Xichang Dan PI, which is inferior in quality.

In addition to the above genuine Cortex Moutan, the root bark of Paeonia suffruticosa and Paeonia suffruticosa is still used in Shaanxi Province. The varieties of Paeonia suffruticosa in Xichang are complex. Intravenous injection of Cortex Moutan Decoction (equivalent to crude drug 0.75 g / kg) has antihypertensive effect on anesthetized dogs, cats and rats; paeonol and water decoction without paeonol also have antihypertensive effect in acute animal experiments; oral administration of experimental hypertension (primary type and renal type) in dogs or rats can produce a certain antihypertensive effect, but the effect is slow, which may be due to slow absorption in gastrointestinal tract .

③ Antibacterial action

In vitro, it has strong antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus albicans, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, typhoid bacillus, etc. Paeonia suffruticosa has significant effect on Shigella dysentery and typhoid bacilli (double dilution method in test tube), and its bactericidal power is the strongest at pH 7.0-7.6. Agar plate trenching method also proved to be effective against Salmonella typhi, Shigella dysentery, Salmonella paratyphi and Escherichia coli. The ethanol extract of Paeonia suffruticosa has digitalis like effect on frog heart. It can excite uterus, inhibit intestines of rats and rabbits, and slightly reduce blood pressure of rats. However, it has no analgesic and anticonvulsant effects (shock caused by electric shock and PTZ).
