The body is slender, about 14 cm long, and the posterior part is laterally flat. Head flat; snout broad and obtuse, eyes small, with movable margin. Wide mouth, low position. There are 4 pairs of whiskers, 1 pair of maxilla is the longest, 1 pair of nostrils and 2 pairs of mandible are shorter. All naked without scales; lateral lines complete. The dorsal fin is 59-65, located at the posterior and upper part of the pectoral fin. The dorsal fin and the gluteal fin are not connected with the caudal fin. Pectoral fin I 8, ventral fin 6, caudal fin round. The body is brownish black and the lower part is lighter.
They live in rivers and lakes. It is distributed in Guangdong, Fujian, Yunnan, Jiangsu and Shanghai.
