Perennial herbs. Underground stem massive, creeping, thick. Aboveground stem erect, coarsely hairy. Leaves 1, rarely 2 on the same stem; leaf shield shaped, margin up to 9-angled, green above with purple stripes, light green below; petiole coarsely hairy. Inflorescence inserted near the tip, extracted near the leaf blade, solitary or to 5 inserted on a short stem; sepals 5, linear; petals 5, dark purple; stamens 6, filamentous, oblique, anthers 2-locular, longitudinal, inward; pistils 1, stigma capitate, ovary superior. Berries ovoid, black. Most of the seeds have no aril and the flowering period is from May to June. The fruit period is from September to October.
Born in dense forests, valleys and other wet places. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi and other places.
