[plant morphology] Zygophyllum
Annual climbing herbs. Stem slender, pubescent. Leaf blade narrowly triangular halberd or triangular heart-shaped, 5-8 cm long and 2.5-5 cm wide, apex short or long pointed, base heart-shaped, margin with sparse shallow serrate, sometimes 3-5-lobed. Tendrils simple 1 or 2-dichotomous, opposite leaves. Inflorescence axillary; flowers small, unisexual, monoecious; calyx 5-lobed, lobes linear lanceolate; corolla yellow green, 5-deeply lobed, lobes triangular lanceolate; stamens 5, separated; ovary of female flower subglobose, 1-locular, with nodular process, ovule 2, style short, stigma 2-lobed. Capsule ovoid, green, pendulous, with spiny protuberance, upper half covered when ripe. Seeds 2, gray. The flowering period is from July to August. The fruit period is from September to October.
It grows in mountain grass or roadside water. It is distributed in Northeast, North and East China.
