[plant morphology] Lithospermum lappa
Short herbaceous, less than 10 cm tall. Rhizome slender, more transverse, node, node fiber like whisker phase. Leaves 6-10, opposite to very short stems; obovate to obovate oblong or spatulate, subcleathery, subentire, base extended into short stalks, winged. Flowers 3-5 arranged into racemes with bracts; calyx campanulate, 5-lobed; corolla 2-lipped, dark purple blue, upper lip nearly erect, 2-lobed, lower lip large, widely spread, 3-lobed, throat raised, slightly yellow, or purple spots; stamens 4, 2 long, 2 short; style filiform, stigma 2-flaky. The fruit is berrylike, fleshy, subglobose, dark brown when ripe.
Born at the foot of the wet mountain, grass.
