Evergreen shrub, 1-3 m high. Twigs smooth, bark yellow green. Leaves alternate, fragrant, lanceolate or elliptic lanceolate, 4.5-9 cm long, 1.5-2.5 cm wide, apex long pointed, base sharp or wedge-shaped, dark green above, gray green below, silky when tender, with fine pits on both sides; 3 veins, lateral veins thin but not obvious; petiole about 5-8 mm long. Flowers dioecious, yellow, fragrant, umbel axillary, male inflorescence without pedicel, 2-7 flowers; perianth 6-lobed; fertile stamens 9, anthers 2-locular, intropetal lobed. Drupe ovate, glabrous, about 1 cm long, black at maturity, pedicel about as long as fruit, with silky hairs.
It grows under the broad-leaved forest and in the rocky valley. It is distributed in Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and Guangxi.
