Shrubs or small trees, bark reddish brown; branches densely covered with scales, bald when old. Leaves alternate, nearly leathery, ovate oblong to oblong lanceolate, 5-13 cm long and 2-5 cm wide, apex acuminate, base cuneate, entire, stellate hairy on both sides when young, glabrous on the top and gray hairy below when old; petiole about 1 cm long, brown red hairy. Racemes axillary or terminal, 3-7 cm long, covered with brown stellate hairs; flowers about 1 cm long; calyx cup-shaped, equal in length and width, truncate; corolla white, lobes 5, narrowly oblong; stamens 10, inserted at the base of corolla tube, anthers linear; ovary superior, base 3-locular. Drupe subglobose, ca. 1 cm long, obtuse, pubescent. The flowering period is from March to April. The fruit period is from September to October.
It grows in the shrubbery of hills and mountains. Distribution in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Zhejiang, Anhui, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places.
