The inflorescence is terminal, about 2.5 cm in diameter, with many flowers; the calyx is usually coronoid, white or yellow, purplish red; the calyx tube is tubular, with 5-lobed apex, spreading lobes, oblong to obovate; the stamens are 10, arranged in 2 rows at the throat; the ovary is superior, the upper part is densely hairy, the style is short, and the stigma is capitate. Fruit ovate, enclosed by the base of perianth tube. 1 seed. The flowering period is from May to June.

Perennial herbs, 15-40 cm high, containing white milk. The root is fleshy. The lower part of stem is scaly, membranous, light brown; the middle and upper leaves are 3-5 whorls, sessile; the leaves are oblong or oblong ovate, 4-6.5 cm long and 1-3 cm wide. Apex obtuse or acute, base rounded. Perennial herbs, 30-50 cm high. Leaves alternate; leaves narrowly elliptic or elliptic lanceolate, 4-8 cm long, 1.5-2 cm wide, apex rounded, base cuneate. It has 5 branches, 4-5 ovate lanceolate or triangular long ovate bracts at the base; each branch is further divided into 2 branches, 2 triangular ovate or broadly ovate bracts at the branches, 2 smaller bracts and 1 cup-shaped cyme at the apex of branchlets; male and female flowers are in calyx cup-shaped involucre, 4 lobed at the apex of involucre and 4 glands. It is cone-shaped to long cylindrical, slightly twisted, 7-30 cm long and 2-7 cm in diameter. There are aerial stem residues on the head of the root. Its appearance is brown to brown, with longitudinal wrinkles and transverse slender lenticels, and sometimes fine roots. After the cork peeled off, soft fibers were exposed. The xylem in the center of the section is yellow white, and the phloem in the outer ring is white and fibrous. The flavor is slightly sweet, slightly bitter and spicy.

Euphorbia fischeriana
Also known as: cat's eye flower root, Stellera chamaejasme. It is about 4-7 cm in diameter, 0.5-3 cm in thickness and occasionally 7 cm in thickness. The surface is yellowish brown or light brown. The skin of the embolus is overlapped and flaked easily. The section is not flat, there are dark brown and yellow white concentric rings, occasionally ring lines are not significant. It is light in weight, easy to break, powdery in cross section, sticky when wet, and sticky when tearing. It has a mild, sweet and pungent taste.

The Stellera chamaejasme recorded in Materia Medica is the Stellera chamaejasme of Daphne family, so it should be regarded as authentic. However, the Stellera chamaejasme used in most areas is the Stellera chamaejasme of Euphorbiaceae.
[chemical constituents] the root of Stellera chamaejasme contains sterols, phenolic compounds, amino acids, triterpenoids and toxic macromolecular organic acids. It may also contain anthraquinone.
The root of Euphorbia fischeriana contains 10.46% resin and 1-2% hard rubber.
[pharmacological action] a kind of Stellera chamaejasme glycoside was extracted from the root of Stellera chamaejasme.
