Trees, up to 15 m high. Branchlets subcylindrite or quadrangular, glabrous. Leaves opposite, broad ovate, oblong or elliptic, 8-20 cm long, apex acuminate, base obtuse into gradually narrow, nearly leathery, bald, often with black spots below when dry, 8-12 pairs of lateral veins; petiole 1-1.5 cm long. Flowers small, greenish white, subsessile, widely divergent cymes; calyx campanulate, ca. 3 mm long, subamputated, calyx limb extended into a cap; petals 5, connate into a cap, apex, glandular punctate; stamens numerous, free; ovary 2-locular, style linear. Drupe like berry, globose, ca. 7 mm wide, purple black when ripe. It blooms in summer.
They like to grow near water and often grow near villages. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi and other places.
