[plant morphology] Achyranthes bidentata
Erect herbs annual or biennial, ca. 1 m tall. The stem is much branched, flabby, cylindrical, purplish red, often with yellowish brown longitudinal texture, the nodes are obvious and expanded, the young branches are square, with longitudinal edges, greenish green or purplish red, covered with white short hairs, and the old ones gradually fall off. Leaves opposite, oblong obovate to elliptic or obovate, 3-10 cm long, 1-4 cm wide, apex acuminate, base narrow, entire, both surfaces densely covered with trichomes. Spikes terminal, extended, 4-15 cm long, flowers green, about 4 mm long, buds upright, close to the axis after opening; bracteoles 2, cone tip, strong, usually slightly shorter than the calyx, both sides of the base membranous, transparent; stamens 5, T-shaped drug, filaments purplish red, staminodes ciliary, surrounded by ovary; ovary oblong, style single, stigma not split. Capsule small, oblong, persistent calyx wrapped, not exposed, light brown, ca. 3 mm long, obovate on rachis. The flowering period is from summer and autumn to the next spring.
Distribution in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Fujian, Hunan, Shandong, Jiangsu and other places.
