[plant morphology] Coptis chinensis
Perennial herbs. Rhizome creeping; stem erect, 40-80 cm high, with fine glandular hairs on the upper part. Leaves opposite, occasionally 3-4 whorls, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, 4-12 cm long, 1-4 cm wide, apex acute, base acute or slightly obtuse, often white below, scattered with black spots, base with fine glandular hairs; sessile. Panicle or compound corymbose panicle, terminal, with fine glandular hairs; many flowers, pedicel 7-12 mm long, with narrow linear bracts at the base; flower diameter 12-15 mm, calyx lobes 5, narrowly triangular, apex acute, edge with black striped glands inside; corolla lobes 5, narrowly ovate, with pale yellow granular protuberances on the inner surface and filament; stamen 5, filament base combined into a short tube. Capsule globose, ca. 4 mm in diam., calyx persistent. It blooms in summer.
Born in mountain wetland or forest margin. Distributed in Northeast, North China and Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan and other places.
