[plant morphology] Fuzhou persimmon, also known as black tower, black, wild persimmon.
Shrub, 1-2m high. The branches are erect and spiny, leaves alternate, small, leathery, elliptic, broadly ovate to oblong, 2.5-3.5 cm long and 1-1.5 cm wide, apex obtuse or obtuse acuminate, entire, base round, both sides of leaves gray green, above smooth glabrous, below sparsely pubescent; petiole about 2 mm long. The flowers are dioecious, axillary; the male flowers are slightly small, cymes, stamens 16, 2-round arrangement, filaments separated, anthers lanceolate, ovary degenerated; the female flowers are mostly solitary, sepals 4-lobed, broadly ovate, apex pointed, both sides pilose, persistent, sepals enlarged after anthesis; corolla bell shaped, 4-lobed. Berry globose, pubescent, 1.5-3.5 cm in diam. Seeds oblong, flat, testa bony. The flowering period is from March to April.
Born on the edge of the mountain, tukanyin wetland. It is distributed in Sichuan, Fujian and other places.
The leaves of this plant (cotyledons of black pagoda) are also used for medicinal purposes.
