It is about 16 cm long and is shaped like a sparrow. The upper mouth is dark brown and the lower mouth is light yellow. The iris is brown. It is black around the base of the beak and at the beginning of the eye; the head, back neck, throat and upper chest of the male are grayish green, the rest of the upper body are mostly olive brown, with black brown dry lines on the back feathers; the wings and tail are mostly black brown, with pale feather margin; the outermost tail feathers are almost white, with wedge-shaped white spots on the second pair; the upper chest to tail are all lemon yellow, with black brown longitudinal lines on both sides. Feet 4 toes, light yellow. The female's feathers are slightly similar to the male's, only the head and neck are olive brown with black longitudinal lines; the eyebrows are slightly brown; the throat and chest are olive yellow with dark brown spots.
It lives in the sparse forest or bush of valley, river bank or plain swamp, and in the grass area in autumn. The food is seeds of various weeds and wild plants, as well as cereals and insects. It is distributed in the northeast of China. When they migrated, they were all over North and central China. It overwinters all over South China.
