Evergreen trees, 15-20m high. The bark is dark gray, irregularly longitudinally lobed; the branchlets are yellowish brown tomentose. Leaves alternate, leathery; leaves long elliptic or ovate long elliptic, 8-12 cm long, 2.5-5 cm wide, apex acuminate or short acuminate, base cuneate or suborbicular, slightly oblique, margin above middle sparsely serrate, glabrous above, dense gray yellow villi below, lateral veins 10-13 pairs; petiole 1-2 cm long, villous. The flowers are unisexual, monoecious; the male flowers are catkin, yellow; the female inflorescence is stout, with 5-8 flowers and separate styles.
