Citrus peel

(notes on materia medica)

Another name: guangchenpi, xinhuipi, chenganpi.

[source] it is the peel of many kinds of citrus, such as chazhigan or Ougan. The plant morphology is shown in the "orange" section.

[collection] the hot fruits were picked from September to November, and the outer skin was peeled and dried in the shade or in the sun.

[medicinal material] the whole peel is usually divided into three petals, each petal is nearly round, connected at the fruit stalk, sometimes broken and separated into a single petal. Petals mostly turned outward, white inner layer obviously exposed; pericarp ca. 1 mm thick. The outer surface is yellowish orange to reddish orange with numerous large and concave oil spots. The inner surface is white cotton wadding, and the oil spots are slightly concave. It is loose and soft, but not brittle after drying. The aroma is rich, slightly pungent, but not bitter. The skin is thin, large and soft. It is better to have less disease spots, oily and fragrant.

It is mainly produced in Guangdong and Guangxi. In addition, it is also produced in Fujian and other places.

This product is used to be used as medicine as orange peel. Please refer to "orange peel".

[chemical constituents] the peel of Jiaogan contains hesperidin, pericarpin and volatile oil.
