[plant morphology] Eupatorium japonicum
Annual herb, 8-15 cm high. Stem erect, scabrous or hairy, solitary or slightly branched. Upper leaves alternate, linear; lower leaves opposite, linear or lanceolate, leaves ca. 1 cm or shorter, rarely dentate, sometimes reduced to scales. Inflorescence terminal, yellow, red or white flowers, the lower part is distant, the upper part is close, sessile; bracts are usually longer than calyx; calyx tubular, 5-lobed, usually with 10 edges; corolla tube slender, about 8 mm long, curved near the top, lip shaped, upper lip 2-lobed, lower lip 3-lobed, upper lip shorter than lower lip; stamen 4, enclosed, anther 1-locular; pistil 1, style slender, apical rod-shaped. Capsule subglobose or oblong, locular, many seeds. The flowering period is July. The fruit period is from August to September.
It grows on the grassland of plain and hills and often parasitizes on the roots of other plants. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Fujian and other places.

[medicinal material] the dried whole grass is yellowish brown or greenish brown, with thin stems and gray white hairs. Leaves linear or lanceolate, mostly deciduous.
