[plant morphology] halodendron
Perennial creeper, rhizome divergent, creeping, rooting. Stem rounded, all densely covered with setae. Leaves opposite; slightly thick, long elliptic, sometimes ovate or lanceolate, 1.5-4.5 cm long, 4-14 mm wide, usually obtuse, rarely acute, base cuneate, 3 large missing teeth at the leading edge, small shallow serrated at the trailing edge; petiole slender, 3-4 cm long. Inflorescence: head; involucre hemispherical, bracts ovate, hairy; marginal ligulate flower 1 row, female, tongue yellow, 8-11 mm long, 4 mm wide; central tubular flower bisexual, corolla tubular, 5-toothed, apex of anther with appendages, style sharp. Achene densely setose, 3.5-4 mm long, 2 mm wide, 3-4-ribbed, apex truncate, without dentate corona. The flowering period is from July to August.
Distributed in Guangdong, Fujian, Taiwan, Zhejiang and other places.

[clinical application] prevention and treatment of diphtheria
1. Prevention: wash and chop the whole herb with 0.5-1 Liang (half dry), add water to extract 20 ml (half dry for children), once a day for 3 days; or squeeze the whole herb juice, add vinegar equivalent to 1 / 4 of the juice, and apply it on throat and tonsil with cotton swab, 1-2 times a day for 3-6 days. The second treatment: 1-5 liang of halodendron (2 liang under 3 years old, 3 Liang above 3 years old, 5 Liang adults) were decocted in water three times a day, and the throat was swabbed with halodendron acetate twice a day until the pseudomembrane subsided and other symptoms disappeared. Penicillin was added to mixed cases, and glucose, vitamin C and hormone were added to toxic cases as appropriate. 443 cases were treated and 439 cases were cured. In addition, it has been reported that 2 liang of fresh Artemisia, 2 Qian of licorice and 5 Tong Cao were used as one dose. They were decocted in water and taken warm for 3-4 times, 1-4 times a day. Local application of Artemisia vinegar was 2-3 times a day. Penicillin, vitamin B and vitamin C were used in most cases, and other methods were used for symptomatic treatment in case of myocarditis and laryngeal obstruction. A total of 773 cases were treated, 756 cases were cured and 17 cases died. The clinical symptoms of most patients were relieved in 2-6 days, pseudomembrane disappeared in 2-7 days, and the average time of bacteria turning negative was 4.9 days.
