Evergreen shrubs, up to 2 m high. Stem erect, much branched, bark gray brown, sparse round punctate lenticels. Leaves alternate, often whorled on branchlets, elliptic lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, 5-16 cm long and 2.5-5 cm wide, glabrous, apex acute, sometimes inclined to one side, base cuneate, entire; leaf pegs 0.5-1 cm long, ventrally deeply furrowed. Several flowers gather in the axils of branches, petiole 4-8 mm long, calyx 5, ovate, about 2 mm long, base connate, margin hairy; corolla yellow, about 1 cm long, tubular, 5-lobed, lobes ovate, involute outward; stamen 5, concealed; pistil is composed of 3 or 4 carpels, style short, simple 1, stigma small, undivided, ovary stipitate, superior. Capsule obovate, usually triangular, with several seeds. The flowering period is from February to April. The fruit period is from May to June.
