In 933, Meng Zhixiang was granted the title of king of Shu. In the following year, Meng Zhixiang was founded in Chengdu and became emperor. His name was Mingde, and his name was Shu. He was also called Hou Shu in history. Meng Chang, the son of Meng Zhixiang, was able to make great efforts to govern the country. There were few wars in his territory. He was an economically and culturally developed area during the Five Dynasties period, and maintained peace for more than 30 years.
In November of the second year of Qiande in the Northern Song Dynasty (964), song Taizu sent troops to attack houshu. history
Establishment of a separate state
The founder of later Shu was Meng Zhixiang, a native of Longgang, Xingzhou (now Xingtai, Hebei). At the end of the Tang Dynasty, Meng Zhixiang worked under Li Keyong, king of Jin Dynasty, and was appreciated. Li Keyong married his younger brother Li Keyong's daughter to Meng Zhixiang. After the throne of Jin Dynasty, Li Cunxu was appointed as the middle gate envoy in charge of confidential affairs, and later he was appointed as the left behind envoy in Taiyuan. After the end of the late Tang Dynasty, Guo Chongtao recommended Meng Zhixiang as the governor of Xichuan, and Tang Zhuangzong ordered him to take up the post and add the title of Tongping Zhangshi. Li Jijian, the son of Zhuang Zong, was the commander in chief in name, but the actual military power was in the hands of Guo Chongtao, the Privy envoy. After the destruction of Shu, Guo Chongtao made great contributions and was suspected by Zhuang Zong, so he sent an envoy to execute Guo Chongtao. After the death of Guo Chongtao, the army that destroyed Shu was leaderless, and Li Jiji, the king of Wei, was unable to control the situation. Seeing this, Meng Zhixiang galloped into Shu to make Xuanfu and stabilize people's mind.
On the way back to the north, Li Jiji, the king of Wei, happened to have a mutiny in Luoyang, and Zhuang Zong was killed. Then Li Jiji, the king of Wei, committed suicide, and Li Siyuan, the emperor of Ming Dynasty, became emperor. Meng Zhixiang saw that the central plains were in chaos, so he had the idea of independent rule in Shu.
Meng Zhixiang stepped up his military training and reorganized his armaments. Emperor mingzong sent people to urge him to hand over the remaining money and things in Shu to the imperial court, but Meng Zhixiang refused to deliver them. Soon after that, he executed Li Yan, a military envoy sent by the Ming clan, and refused a million yuan of gift money from the later Tang Dynasty. He united with Dong Zhang, the governor of Dongchuan, and openly opposed the court. Because of the dangerous road, the Ming clan army had to return it. After the threat of the Central Plains Dynasty was eliminated, he clashed with his former ally Dong Zhang. After fierce fighting, Meng Zhixiang destroyed Dong Zhang's army and occupied Dongchuan.
In the fourth year of Changxing (932) of the later Tang Dynasty, Meng Zhixiang was granted the title of governor of dongxichuan, Chengdu Yin and king of Shu by Emperor mingzong of Tang Dynasty. In 934 ad, the emperor of Ming Dynasty died, so Meng Zhixiang became emperor in Chengdu. His state name was still Shu, which was called Hou Shu in history. Meng Zhixiang died after 114 days in office, and his son Meng Chang succeeded him.
The end of the late Shu Dynasty
Meng Chang is different from Wang Yan in the former Shu Dynasty. He is not a fatuous king in Song Dynasty. When he ascended the throne when he was young, he could not be in charge at that time. Most of the generals and ministers were Meng Zhixiang's old friends. They were arrogant and lawless. They took people's land and houses. They were very extravagant and regarded Meng Chang as nothing. If Meng Chang wants to rectify his politics, he must first eradicate these senior officials. After fierce struggle, Meng Chang finally got what he wanted, eradicated these old ministers and began to take charge of the government.
At the end of the Late Jin Dynasty, Qidan invaded Bianliang, burning, killing and plundering everywhere, which caused the resistance of the people in the Central Plains, and the Central Plains fell into chaos
