Jiangdong township is under the jurisdiction of Ning'an city. It is located in the northeast of the city, bordering Mudanjiang in the northwest, Mudanjiang City in the north and Laoyeling city in the southeast. The township government is 5 kilometers away from Ning'an town.

During the period of the Republic of China, the residents scattered in guanyaogou and huamiangou were divided into Zhiben Township and Ningkang township. During the period of northeast occupied by Japanese, it was under the jurisdiction of zhangjiacun. After the victory of the "93" Anti Japanese war in 1945, it was first subordinate to the first autonomous region, then subordinate to Jiangnan region, and then subordinate to the third region in August 1948. In May 1956, the village was divided into townships, and Guanyao township was set up. In September 1958, Gangyao and Jiangnan townships were merged to form Jiangnan people's commune. In 1962, it was transferred from Jiangnan commune to Jiangdong commune. In April 1984, it was changed to Jiangdong township. Jiangdong township is located on the west slope of Laoyeling. Huamiangou and guanyaogou stretch from east to west, forming two natural rivers. The east part is mountainous area, and the west part is semi mountainous area. The total area of the township is 239.8 square kilometers, with 25000 mu of cultivated land. The diversified businesses include planting of Auricularia auricula, medicinal materials, fruit trees and breeding of bees, sheep and fish. The yellow tobacco in bojizhang village is a well-known local specialty. The township has 15 villages including Jiefang, Shuangfu, Guangjin, Dongxing, Xingguang, Guanyao, Ningdong, Dongsheng, Qingquan, Yongquan, Fuqiang, Boji, Yongle, Shuangxing and Fuxing. At the end of 1992, the total population of the township was 8448, of which Korean, Manchu, Hui and other ethnic minorities accounted for about 28% of the total population of the township. Most of the Manchu were original residents in the Qing Dynasty, while the Korean moved in after 1946 when they developed paddy fields in Sichuan. The township government is located in Guanyao village.
