Today, Jiangnan township is under the jurisdiction of Enlong county (today's Tiandong county) after 1875. In June 1935, it was divided into Pingzhi county and Jiangnan township. In December 1955, it was divided into Du'an Yao Autonomous County and Jiangnan district. On February 10, 1988, the people's Government of the autonomous region classified Jiangnan township as Dahua Yao Autonomous County. It is an important part of the dongbafeng and Youjiang Revolutionary Base.
