Historical records
Xinkai town is located about 40 kilometers southwest of Huangmei County. It is adjacent to the main dike of the Yangtze River in the south. The vast river flows eastward. It faces each other across the river and confronts kuanglu. North to Caishan, Jiangxin ancient temple, morning bell and evening drum, the sky reverberates; second Jin Mei, Huarong fragrance. Looking up the origin of Xinkai town is a historical name: it is said that Hongren, the fifth ancestor of Zen Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty, was unable to speak after he was born. When he was seven years old (608 AD), he went here with his mother to collect wheat, and the villagers began to speak in the face of teasing him. Then Hongren became the fifth ancestor of Zen Buddhism, so people called this place "Xinkai". Until the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was established as a township. At that time, the government officially named it "xinkaikou town" according to folk customs, and after the Republic of China, it was abbreviated as "Xinkai town". According to the dictionary of ancient and modern place names in China, "xinkaikou town is 70 miles southwest of Huangmei County in Hubei Province. It is the same important riverside place as Qingjiang town in the south of Huangmei County. The old Xunzi town is like this." According to the county annals, "in 1759, a new lifeboat was set up; in 1766, a new division set up 29 trumpeters to patrol the river." Xinkai town is one of the 36 towns in Huangmei. It has always been a farmer's market. The original main street and back street were destroyed when the levee burst in 1888. Longdang is the site of the main street at that time. Today's main street is the back street at that time. Nowadays, Xinkai town has undergone great changes and has a brand new look. It is not only the residence of Xinkai town government, but also the economic and cultural center of Xinkai town. It is also a resort for Zen tourism.
Economic situation
The town's economic sources are mainly agriculture and forestry, handicraft industry and migrant workers, supplemented by aquaculture, industry and commerce.
Agricultural planting is mainly cotton, corn, wheat, vegetables, rape, soybeans, etc., with peanut, broad bean, sorghum, sugarcane, melon and fruit planted in miscellaneous belt. The town can transport a large number of cotton, wheat, rapeseed, soybeans and other agricultural products to other places every year, belonging to the important cotton and grain producing areas of the county. The cotton planting area of Xinkai town is 30000 mu. In recent years, the town government has made great efforts to adjust the agricultural industrial structure. Through the establishment of insect resistant cotton base, double low rape base, upland rice base, plantain seed base, Zhusheng base and other agricultural bases, it has basically realized the transformation of ordinary cotton into insect resistant cotton, summer grain into summer oil, rice into upland rice, low efficiency into high efficiency, and launched a large number of famous, special, new and excellent products Good economic benefits have been achieved. On the other hand, due to the policy of "returning farmland to forest" on the periphery of the Yangtze River levee, the forestry of the town has also been greatly developed in the past decade. Every spring, along the Yangtze River levee, the woods around the levee, Camellia mixed with trees, the flickering Yangtze River and Lushan Mountain across the river have become a unique landscape.
The main aquatic products are artificial silver carp, silver carp, grass carp, and wild crucian carp, river fish, river shrimp, crayfish, catfish, mullet, turtle, eel, loach, and snails. Every spring and summer, a large number of rural labors in the town take fishing and trafficking crayfish as sideline work, and many people use water resources to breed other carnivores.
A large part of the income source of the town is provided by handicraft workers. Many young men in the town are engaged in construction, decoration and other occupations in local or Jiujiang, Wuhan and coastal areas. As a result, many young women are driven to work in coastal areas, basically forming the characteristics of "men's clothing repair and women's clothing", which not only digests the local surplus labor force, but also greatly drives the development of the town Land consumption and economic development.
Relying on the local economic structure and personnel occupation reality, the enterprises established in the town are mainly engaged in grain and oil processing, wood processing, furniture manufacturing and sales, clothing processing and other industries. These enterprises also provide many employment opportunities for many people who are unwilling to engage in agriculture but expect to work in their hometown.
Due to the well-developed transportation, the surrounding towns such as Xiaochi, Konglong and Caishan belong to the traditional strong commercial towns. However, due to the limited geographical location and inconvenient external transportation, the business of the town is not developed, and the number of businesses can only basically satisfy the shopping and consumption of most of the town and the surrounding villages and towns, so the business district has not changed much.
