Zuomen township is located in the northwest of Yao'an County, Yunnan Province, at the junction of two prefectures (Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture) and three counties (Yao'an County, Xiangyun County, Dayao County). The township government is 44 kilometers away from the county seat. It is connected with Guanglu town in the East, Xiangyun County of Dali Prefecture in the west, Mayou village committee of Guantun Township in the South and Shiyang town of Dayao County in the north.

The township covers an area of 203 square kilometers, with 5 villager committees, 47 villager groups, 51 natural villages, 1119 households and 4036 permanent residents (2017). In 2014, the per capita net income of farmers reached 5168 yuan. The highest altitude is 2771.9 meters, the lowest altitude is 1515 meters, the average temperature is 13.3 degrees Celsius, and the forest coverage rate is 87.7%.

The township covers an area of 203 square kilometers and has five village committees, namely, desuo village committee, Biba village committee, zuomen village committee, pengla village committee, Yangla village committee, 51 natural villages and 47 villager groups. At the end of 2008, there were 1101 households with a permanent population of 4036 (2017), with a natural population growth rate of 4.11 ‰. The mountains are undulating, the mountains are high and clear, and there is a big difference in the sea level. The highest sea level is 2776 meters in Zanthoxylum bungeanum garden, and the lowest is 1515 meters in the sea level. The forest coverage rate is 76.3%. Historical evolution
The organization of zuomen Township changed frequently. Zuomen Township sometimes merges and sometimes divides, belonging to different district and township governments. from 1950 to 1953, there were six districts in the county, and now zuomen district is the fourth district. from 1954 to 1957, there were seven districts in the county, and now Zuomin district still belongs to the fourth district. In 1962 and 1965, the division of the whole county was adjusted, and now the left gate area belongs to Mayou commune. from 1971 to 1972, the division was adjusted, and now Zuomin district is under the jurisdiction of Guanglu commune. From 1973 to 1978, zuolmen commune was established, and five brigades including pengla, Yangla, zuolmen, Biba and desuo were under its jurisdiction until 1982. In 1974, zuomen commune was abolished and merged into Guanglu commune. In 1975, zuomen commune was set up, and the brigade under its jurisdiction remained unchanged. In 1983, zuomen township was incorporated into Guanglu District until 1987. On October 15, 1988, zuolmen was separated from Guanglu, and zuolmen township was established. It has jurisdiction over five village offices, namely, pengla, Yangla, zuolmen, Biba and Tisuo. After the Village Reform Commission, five village offices were changed into village committees.
