History of construction
Dongzhang is located in the alluvial plain of the Yangtze River Delta. It has a long history. After generations of laboring people, it has been cultivated all the year round. It has turned barren beaches into good farmland and formed villages. During the Three Kingdoms period, Wu belonged to Yu township. According to Wu Diji of Tang Dynasty, Dongzhang Diwang belonged to "Shuangfeng township" and "Sizheng township", which were the earliest recorded materials in historical documents. After that, the name of shuangbang and Baimao Laoshi changed. During the Southern Song Dynasty, there was Zhang Taiwei who lived in it, so he was called Baimao zhangjiashu. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, Zhang Shicheng's relatives built the city in accordance with the army, also known as Zhangjia city. Zhang's hometown was located in 1910 because there was also Zhangjiagang City in Xixiang of Changshu. In 1934, it was divided into one town and seven townships. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, there were three townships, Dongzhang, Hengtang and Dongzhou. After the founding of new China, there were seven townships in Dongzhang, Hengtang, Dongzhou, Baimao, Changsha, Sizhou and Louqiao. In 1956, it was divided into three townships: Dongzhang, Hengtang and Dongzhou. In 1957, it became Dongzhang Daxiang. In 1958, Dongzhang people's commune was established with 6 production teams and 73 production teams. In 1980, there were 17 teams, 245 teams and 1 breeding farm along the Yangtze River. In 1993, Dongzhang township was renamed Dongzhang town after the township was removed to build a town. In 2002, the town had 10 administrative villages, 245 villager groups and 1 neighborhood committee. In 2003, the administrative division was adjusted and the town was abolished. It became a sub district office of Xingang town and later renamed Dongzhang Management District.
Produce crops
Changshu is the birthplace of vegetable export promotion. As early as 1984, the town invested funds to build a 1000 mu high-yield demonstration base in Bailian village, and sent people to introduce excellent seeds from Japan and the United States to carry out purification and rejuvenation, and product comparison and trial planting in the demonstration base. After success, it was promoted to the whole town and surrounding towns. Since 1995, the town has actively adopted the methods of introducing private capital and foreign capital to establish three leading vegetable processing enterprises, namely Changshu Tianjie Food Co., Ltd., Changning Eagle Food Co., Ltd. and Taitai Xingxing (Changshu) Food Co., Ltd. Since 2004, these leading enterprises have successively established more than 20 pollution-free vegetable planting bases in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Shandong, Inner Mongolia and other places, implementing the "company + base + farmers" connection, risk sharing and benefit sharing. The leading enterprises provide seeds and technology, and implement protective price purchase, and export them to the international market after processing. The pollution-free vegetable planting base centered on Dongzhang town of Changshu has been extended to more than 10 provinces and cities and more than 400 townships in China. More than 100000 mu of farmland planted by more than 50000 farmers has become the green workshop and production base of these leading enterprises. It is estimated that the annual income of farmers will increase by 100 million yuan. In 2002, Dongzhang Town, Changshu, Jiangsu Province, acquired and exported more than 20000 tons of garlic sprouts, onion, millet, sweet potato, bracteat, broad bean, broccoli, and Holland bean, which were exported to Japan, the United States, South Korea, Russia and other three continents. Its foreign exchange sales reached nearly 100 million yuan, ranking the first in southern Jiangsu. Changshu Tianjie Food Co., Ltd., founded in 1993, is a joint venture between Changshu green food quick freezing factory and Taiwan Taitai Xingye Co., Ltd. It covers an area of 16000 square meters, with fixed assets of 16 million yuan. It has 1080 square meters of high and low temperature comprehensive warehouse, 600 square meters of pre cooling production workshop, 1600 square meters of sorting workshop, 1000 square meters of grain, oil and food foreign trade transfer warehouse, and other auxiliary workshops of 800 square meters. The company mainly produces, processes and sells all kinds of fresh-keeping vegetables for export. The products include: Holland bean, sweet pea, broad bean, yellow onion, Japanese green onion, broccoli, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, garlic, garlic seedling and other 20 products, with an annual production, processing and sales capacity of 10000 tons. 80% of the products are exported to Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia and other international markets.
