Shibatang Township

Shibatang Township, subordinate to Nankang District, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, is located in the north of Nankang District, bounded by Zhanggong district and Fenggang town in the East, Tangjiang town and Longhua Township in the south, Shangyou County in the West and Mashuang Township in the north. Its total area is 130.15 square kilometers. At the end of 2018, the registered residence population of eighteen villages was 38 thousand and 500. As of October 2019, shibatang township has jurisdiction over 2 communities and 14 administrative villages.

The transportation in shibatang township is convenient. The two village roads from shibatangwei to Hongling (Shexi) and from neichao to Baishi (Tangjiang) are all hardened with cement. Tanglong highway and Jiangxi Guangdong Expressway pass through the territory.

Historical evolution

In the early days of liberation, Shaxi and neichao were two townships in Tangjiang district.

At the time of cooperation, it belonged to Shaxi, Qingping and neichao townships in Mashuang district. There are 12 senior communes such as Matou and Zhangfang; in 1958, the upstream commune was established; in 1959, it was renamed Shaxi commune; in 1961, it was divided into Shaxi commune, Qingping commune and neichao commune; in 1965, it was merged into Shaxi commune.

In 1984, Shaxi commune was changed into shibatang township.

In 2003, neichao township was abolished and merged into shibatang township.

As of October 2019, shibatang township has two communities and 14 administrative villages: tangxing community, Minsheng community, shibatang village, Qunfeng village, Matou village, Hejiang village, aoxia village, Shukeng village, Aotian village, Changtan village, Xiabu village, neichao village, Louxia village, Wuxi village, Zhangfang village and dongshuitian village. The township government is located in shibatangwei.

Shibatang township is high in the northeast and low in the southwest. It is a hilly and mountainous area. There are small alluvial plains along the river, with an altitude of 120-580 meters. The highest point is located in the East and north of shibatang Township, 14 kilometers away from the township government. Tianxinzhai peak is 582.6 meters above sea level. The lowest point is the confluence of the two rivers of xiewuba formation in Hejiang village at the southwest corner, with an altitude of 120 meters. In the township, there are alluvial plains with different soil masses in Xiabu village, Aotian village, Changtan village, aoxia village, Hejiang village, Qunfeng village, shibatang village, Matou village, Zhangfang village and neichao village on both sides of Shexi River in Shangyou, mashuanshaxi River and neichao river. Soil fertility is high, but water conservation is poor, easy to cultivate, accounting for 9.75% of the total area of the township.

History and culture

Eighteen ponds were excavated around chongxingwei in 1693, and visitors from north, South, East and West had to pass the nearby roads to enter or pass through the ponds, so it was called shibatang. It was originally called chongxingwei, which was also called Shaxi in the early Republic of China.
