Banpu town
Banpu town is subordinate to Haizhou District of Lianyungang City, adjacent to Yilu Township and Xiaoyi township of Guanyun County in the south, Ninghai street in the north, Xinba town in the West and Dongxin farm in the East. It is 18 kilometers away from the center of Lianyungang City, with a total area of 80.64 square kilometers and a population of 71682 (2017).
Banpu town is a national key town, one hundred famous towns in Jiangsu Province, a new type of small town in Jiangsu Province, "an advanced town in the construction of national spiritual civilization", a pilot town in the comprehensive reform of small towns in Jiangsu Province, "a demonstration town in the coordinated development of environment and economy in Jiangsu Province", the "most historical cultural town" in Lianyungang City, and "civilized town" in Jiangsu Province. It is also the hometown of "vinegar saint" and the late Qing Dynasty The hometown of Bian Geng, the number one scholar of Wu, Wang Dezhao, Wang Dexi, Cheng Peijin, and Wang Deyao, the famous scholar of science and education, are also in Banpu town. Li Ruzhen, the great master of literature, lives in Banpu and writes the immortal masterpiece Jinghuayuan.
In 2014, Lianyungang Municipal Government authorized the Management Committee of Lianyungang high tech Industrial Park (headquarters of Southern Development Zone) to manage Banpu town.
Historical evolution
The origin of place names
The origin of the place name of Banpu is related to the sea. It is said that in the middle of this newly silted beach there is a small river flowing north and south. In order to facilitate the traffic between East and West, salt cookers built bridges on the river and paved the low-lying areas with "cangwuban" to facilitate traffic, so people called this place "Banpu". As time goes by, people call it "Banpu" because it is close to the river renhaikou.
In the Tang Dynasty, Banpu was built under the jurisdiction of Huai'an Prefecture. In the first year of Tang Dynasty (685), the Guanhe River was excavated, and Banpu became a water and land hub.
In song, yuan and Ming Dynasties, Banpu town was subordinate to Huai'an Prefecture.
In 1763, it was under the jurisdiction of Zhili Prefecture of Haizhou.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Haizhou was divided into two counties, Donghai and Guanyun. Banpu, the seat of Guanyun County, became the political, economic and cultural center of the county. On November 6, 1948, Banpu town was liberated. Because Guanyun County People's government is located in DAYISHAN, Banpu district.
In 1950, Banpu district had jurisdiction over 11 townships: Defang Town, Xinmin Town, Zhiyun Town, Qingcheng Town, Dongbei Town, Boyang Township, Hexi Township, Yuchan Township, Xilin Township, Linhai Township and Xishan township.
In November 1951, with the approval of the administrative office of the people's Government of Northern Jiangsu, the scope of Banpu district was adjusted appropriately, and Yujia and other three townships were assigned to Tongxing district.
In 1958, it was changed into Banpu commune, belonging to Guanyun county.
In October 1962, Banpu people's commune was abolished and Banpu town and Dongxin people's commune were established. Banpu town has three neighborhood committees, namely, Defang, Xinmin and Nanmen. Later, the north section of Xidajie street of Xinmin neighborhood committee set up Beimen neighborhood committee. Banpu town has four neighborhood committees.
In November 1976, four production teams of the former Chengbei production brigade and Xinhe production brigade of Dongxin commune were assigned to Banpu Town, and the agricultural and sideline production team of Banpu town was established.
In 2009, Banpu was under the jurisdiction of Haizhou District.

Huaihai Opera
Huaihai opera, commonly known as "Haizhou opera", is also known as "sangua tune" and "laqiang tune" because its main accompaniment instrument is bansanxian and its original singing tune is high. Three or five folk artists can form a troupe, which is convenient for folk performances. Every time you go to a village, you can sing with two benches and two salt mats on the ground. Actors are generally versatile. They can perform on the stage, accompany on the stage and participate in the dialogue at any time. Most of the plays performed are in ancient costume, such as "three chapels", "ten incomplete", "Wang Ma's matchmaking", "fan Lihua's order", "Mu Guiying in command" and so on. Huaihai opera has been listed as a provincial intangible cultural heritage protection project.
Huaihai gongs and drums
Huaihai gonggu, also known as gongguluo and gongguluo, is a kind of music with a long history in Xuhuai Yanlian area. The performance of Huaihai gongs and drums is simple in form, not limited by time and venue. The content is ancient and modern, praising national heroes, patriots, loyal ministers and good generals, and cursing treacherous officials for power, confusing officials and disturbing the people, and mediocre officials for the loss of the country. During the performance, the performers sit on the bench, beating the small gong with one hand and the small drum with the other. The rhythm is appropriate, and they sing in the local language and tone. Singing or standing or sitting, or singing or white, or gestures, or oral skills, singing and acting in parallel, sound and color are good. The rap repertoire includes "Fengshenbang", "Yangjiajiang", "Yuefei Kangjin", "Xue Rengui Zhengdong" and so on.
Play on a dry boat
Play dry boat, also known as play flower boat, shake flower boat. Most of them are made of bamboo, wood and sorghum straw. The outside is covered with colored cloth and decorated with colored paper or cloth. A square cabin in the middle is decorated with paper-cut flowers and paper hydrangeas. During the performance, a woman on a dry boat "sits" (actually stands) in the cabin, and a clown holds a penny as a boatman.
