Historical evolution
According to the cross Lake Bridge site, a Neolithic civilization site excavated in Xiaoshan, as early as 8000 years ago, human beings have been living and reproducing on the fertile soil of Xiaoshan.
From Sanhuang to the early Xia Dynasty, Xiaoshan was a territory of Yangzhou.
In the time of Xia Shaokang (about 19th century BC), Shaokang worried that the descendants of Dayu would be cut off from incense, so he granted his son Yu Yue the title of "Wuyu". According to He Xun's Kuaiji Ji, "Shaokang's Shaozi name is Yue, which is the beginning of Yue's name." From this to the early Warring States period, Xiaoshan was under the jurisdiction of the state.
In the 36th year of King Xian of Zhou Dynasty (333 BC), Chu destroyed Yue and Xiaoshan belonged to Chu.
In the 26th year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (221 BC), Qin unified China and set up Kuaiji Prefecture. Xiaoshan belongs to Kuaiji Prefecture.
In the second year of the first year of the Western Han Dynasty (Ad 2), the county was first built, named Yuji, which belongs to Kuaiji county ("Yu" means Yue language, Yue people call Salt "Yu". Because Xiaoshan produced salt at that time, it was also near Jipu, so it was called "Yuji").
During the Huangwu period of the Three Kingdoms (222-229 AD), it was renamed Yongxing and belonged to Kuaiji Prefecture.
In the first year of Tang Tianbao (742 AD), Yongxing County was changed to Xiaoshan County in the name of Xiaoran mountain, belonging to Yuezhou. Xiaoshan, as the name of the mountain, has been recorded under the name of Yuji County in the book of geography of Han Dynasty. Its origin is that Gou Jian, king of Yue, was defeated by Fu Chai, king of Wu in that year. He led the rest of his soldiers to stay here and looked around Xiaoran. Therefore, it is called Xiaoran mountain, also known as Xiaoshan.
In the fourth year of Jianyan (1130) of the Southern Song Dynasty, Gaozong was stationed in Yuezhou. With the idea of "the great retreat of Shaoyi and the prosperity of pixu for a hundred years", the next year was changed to the first year of Shaoxing, and Shengyue Prefecture was called Shaoxing Prefecture.
