Ningshan County, belonging to Ankang City, Shaanxi Province, is located in the south foot of the middle Qinling Mountains, northwest of Ankang City, adjacent to Zhashui County and Zhen'an County in the East, Shiquan County, Hanyin county and Hanbin District in the south, Foping County in the west, Chang'an District, Zhouzhi County and Fuyi District in the north. It is located between 33 ° 7 ′ 11 ″ - 33 ° 50 ′ 38 ″ N and 108 ° 2 ′ 33 ″ - 108 ° 56 ′ 48 ″ e. it is 130 km long from north to South and 110 km wide from east to west, with a total area of 3678 square kilometers. The name of Ningshan originates from the "Ningshan hall" set up in the Qing Dynasty, which means "peaceful Shaanxi". It belongs to north subtropical humid climate, is the transition zone of north south climate in China, and the watershed of Yangtze River and Yellow River system. It is the green barrier in the south of Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, the north gate of Ankang City, and the transportation fortress from Guanzhong to Sichuan and Chongqing.

Qing Dynasty (1644-1912)
In the 48th year of the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1783), five counties, namely Chang'an, Jue, Yang County, Shiquan and Zhen'an, were set up along the border. Wulang hall was set up, which was directly under the jurisdiction of the province. Jiaojiabao (now North of the old city) was temporarily set up in the Department. In 1784, Emperor Qianlong moved to the old city. In 1800, Wulang hall was renamed Ningshan hall. It first belonged to the province, then to Hanzhong Prefecture, and then to Xing'an Prefecture. Jiaqing 11 years (1806), Ningshan mutiny, Department was destroyed. Jiaqing thirteen years (1808), the Department moved to Ningshan camp military department (now Guankou new city). The people's Republic of China (1949)
On December 5, 1949, Ningshan was liberated, belonging to the Ankang division of the southern Shaanxi administrative office.
In May 1950, it belonged to Ankang district. In 1969, the special area was renamed District, and Ningshan county was subordinate to the administrative office of Ankang district. On November 27, 1950, 720 square kilometers of buckwheat fields, Gangou, jiwozi and aiziping to the north of Xiaoqinling in Ningshan county were assigned to Chang'an County. On May 20, 1956, houchi township of Zhen'an County and the fourth village of Lizha Township were assigned to Ningshan county. In June of the same year, tielu and Longwang townships in Hanyin county were assigned to Ningshan county. In December 1958, Ningshan county was merged into Shiquan County, and Ningshan was set as a cooperation zone. In September 1961, the system of Ningshan county was restored. In 1969, Ankang district was renamed as district, and Ningshan county was subordinate to the administrative Commissioner's office of Ankang district.
In 2002, Ankang area was changed into a city, and Ningshan was subordinate to Ankang City.

On May 13, 1953, the provincial people's government ordered No. 44 that Ningshan county still had nine districts and 50 townships. Eight townships including shiziba, Xieyu, mowang, Haitang, Jiuguan, Taiping, Zaofan and Jiaying were abolished.
In May 1956, tielu, Longwang, Yudong and huofaliao, which were originally under the jurisdiction of Hanyin County, were assigned to Ningshan County, and tielu and Longwang were set up in Taishanmiao district. At the same time, the fourth village of houchi Township and Lizha Township under the jurisdiction of an County was assigned to Ningshan County, and Xinjian township was set up in Taishanmiao district. In September 1961, Ningshan county was restored, with 21 communes in 4 districts under the jurisdiction of the whole county. In December, Jianfeng brigade under the jurisdiction of Shiquan County was assigned to Ningshan county and subordinate to tieluba commune.
In November 1962, the county was still under the jurisdiction of four districts. The number of communes increased from 21 to 27, with 151 production teams and 525 production teams.
In 1964, Guankou commune was abolished, Chengguan town was set up, and Laocheng commune (directly under the county) was added. There are four districts, one town and 27 communes in the county.
In 1967, 40% of the communes in Ningshan county changed their names, while more than 70% of the brigades changed their names. In 1972, the name of Hongqi commune and Dongfeng commune was restored, and Hongwei commune was renamed as Wunong commune.
On March 26, 1973, the county people's Health Bureau informed the brigade by ninggmin No. 3 document that its original name was still restored. However, due to various reasons, the six brigades failed to recover their original names.
In April 1982, with the approval of Ankang district administrative office, Shagou was renamed guanghuo street and tielu was renamed tielu dam. In May of the same year, Huayan (red flag), Wulong (Wunong) and Longwang (Dongfeng) communes resumed their original names.

The name of the district is the same as that of the original district.
