Rongshui Miao Autonomous County, which belongs to Liuzhou city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is located in the north of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and extends eastward from the Miaoling mountains of Yunnan Guizhou Plateau. Rongshui is adjacent to Rong'an County in the East, Liucheng County in the south, Huanjiang County in the west, Luocheng Mulao Autonomous County in the southwest, and Congjiang County in Guizhou Province in the north. The central part of the county is high and the surrounding area is low. The central, Western and southwest part is the middle mountain area, the southeast and northeast part is the low mountain area, and the south end is the hilly karst area. It covers an area of 4665 square kilometers and has a population of 522694 people in 2018, including 396879 people of Miao, Yao, Dong, Zhuang and other ethnic minorities.
The main tourist attractions are Beijiang, Yuanbaoshan, zhenxianyan, Laozi Mountain, longnugou and Yubu village. Local specialties are mainly glutinous pomelo, "Sanfang fragrant duck", Yuanbaoshan tea, Chongyang bamboo shoots, Chongyang wine, mushrooms, fungus and so on.
Rongshui Miao Autonomous County is a key county of national poverty alleviation and development and a rocky desertification County in Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi. On September 25, 2018, it won the honorary title of "2018 e-commerce into rural comprehensive demonstration county" of the Ministry of Commerce. On December 29, 2018, it was named the Sixth Batch of national demonstration areas (units) for national unity and progress by the National People's commission. China's top 100 water purification counties and cities in 2020. On July 29, 2020, it will be included in the National Health township (county) naming list of 2017-2019 cycle. On November 20, 2020, the people's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region approved to withdraw from the poverty-stricken counties.

In the third year of Jianyuan (481 AD), Qixi county and Qixi county were established.
In the first year of Datong in Nanliang (535 AD), Dongning Prefecture was set up in Shuidong county.
In the early Sui Dynasty, Qixi county was abolished. In 598 ad, Dongning Prefecture was changed into Rongzhou and Qixi County into Yixi county. In the second year of Daye (AD 606), Emperor Yang withdrew Rongzhou and merged Yixi County into Shi'an county.
In 621, Rongzhou was reestablished, with jurisdiction over Yixi, Wuyang, Huangshui and anxiu counties. In the sixth year of Wude (623), Yixi county was changed to Rongshui county. In the first year of Tianbao (742), Rongshui county was changed into Rongshui County, and in the first year of Qianyuan (758), Rongzhou was restored.
During the Five Dynasties, Rongzhou was still established and Rongshui county was under its jurisdiction.
In the third year of the Song Dynasty (997), it was Rongshui County of Rongzhou. Chongning set up Qingyuan military Festival. Daguan first year (1107) for Qiannan road Shuai Fu; Daguan third year (1110) for the lower Dudu Fu.
In the Yuan Dynasty, there was a pacification department. In the 16th year of the Zhiyuan Dynasty (1279), it set up the office of the general manager of Rongzhou road. In 1285, it was reduced to Sanzhou.
In 1369, Rongshui county was withdrawn and merged into Rongzhou. Ten years (1377), Jiangzhou county (called Rongxian), is Liuzhou Prefecture.
In the Qing Dynasty, the name of Rong County remained unchanged and belonged to Liuzhou Prefecture.
During the period of the Republic of China, it was still called Rong County, which was subordinate to Liuzhou prefecture (1912), Liujiang Road (1913), administrative supervision committee of Liujiang district (1926), Liuzhou mintuan district (1930), Liuzhou administrative supervision district (1934), the fourth Administrative Region (1940), the second Administrative Region (1942), and the fifteenth Administrative Region (1949).
Period of the people's Republic of China: from 1949 to July 1952, Rong County was under the jurisdiction of Liuzhou District. In July 1951, the people's Government of Rong County moved from Rongshui town to Chang'an town. Rongan county was established in September 1952.
In November 1952, with the former Central District of Rongxian County as the main area, huaibao town (former Zhongzhai township), Gangdong Town, Sanfang Town, Wangdong town and gunbei Dong Township were designated from Luocheng County; Dalang Town, Baiyun Township, Hongshui Township and Gongdong Township were designated from Sanjiang County, and damiaoshan Miao Autonomous region (county level) was established. In 1953, Danian Township, Anli Township and heme town and Yongle township of Rong'an county were designated from Congjiang County, Guizhou Province, belonging to the Miao Autonomous Region of damiaoshan.
In 1955, it was renamed as damiaoshan Miao Autonomous County, belonging to Yishan district. (it belongs to Liuzhou area after 1958. )
In 1965, it was renamed Rongshui Miao Autonomous County (belonging to Liuzhou prefecture).
In 1996, Rongshui Miao Autonomous County covers an area of 4663.8 square kilometers and has a population of about 440000. It has jurisdiction over 4 towns and 17 townships (including 2 ethnic townships): Rongshui Town, Huhe Town, Sanfang Town, huaibao Town, Rongshui Town, Danian Township, Liangzhai Township, Gongdong Township, Hongshui Township, Baiyun Township, Dalang Township, Yongle Township, Tonglian Yao Township, Wangdong Township, Gangdong Township, gunbei Dong Township, Xiangfen Township, Sirong Township, Dongtou Township, Antai Township and Anji township. The county government is located in Rongshui town.

On September 29, 2002, the State Council approved (Guo Han No. 88): Luzhai County, Rong'an County, Rongshui Miao Autonomous County and Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County in the former Liuzhou area were under the jurisdiction of Liuzhou city.
On November 4, 2002, the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GZH 189) agreed to merge Rongshui Township and Rongshui town into Rongshui town. The former Rongshui Township and the administrative areas under the jurisdiction of Rongshui town were all under the jurisdiction of Rongshui Town, and the Rongshui town government was stationed in the former Rongshui town government. There are 354100 Miao, Yao, Dong, Zhuang and other ethnic minorities, including 197100 Miao, accounting for 40.81% of the total population. It has jurisdiction over 4 towns, 16 townships and 205 Village (neighborhood) committees.
In November 2002, Rongshui Miao Autonomous County was under the jurisdiction of Liuzhou city.
In 2003, Rongshui Township and Rongshui town merged into Rongshui town.
In 2012, Rongshui County celebrated its 60th anniversary.
On November 20, 2020, the people's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region approved to withdraw from the poverty-stricken counties.

The terrain of the county is high in the middle and low in the surrounding, while the southwest is the lowest. The central, Western and southwest are the Zhongshan region. There are 57 peaks above 1500 meters above sea level. Among them, Motianling is 1938 meters above sea level, and Yuanbaoshan is 2081 meters above sea level. It is the third highest peak in Guangxi and the first peak in the county. The southeast and northeast are low mountain areas. The southern end is hilly karst area, which is relatively gentle and is called County Plain.

(2) The climate is mild. In 2011, the average temperature of Rongshui county was 19.6 ℃. The annual extreme maximum temperature is 36.9 ℃ and the annual extreme minimum temperature is 0.5 ℃ in the county, among which the minimum temperature in the alpine mountain area is - 4.1 ℃;
(3) Abundant rainfall but uneven distribution, the county is one of the rainy centers in the region. The average annual precipitation in 2011 is 1284.3 mm, which is the first since the data records;
(4) In the county, summer is the longest, winter is the second, and spring is the shortest. The annual total evaporation is 1478.2 mm.

Rongshui county belongs to the Duliu river system. There are 13 rivers in the county, including Rongjiang River, Beijiang River, Siwei River, tianzhai River, Baojiang River, Danian River, Dulang River, Xiangfen River, Dongtou River, huazi River, Yingdong River, Nachan River and Chidong River, with a catchment area of 384.39 billion square meters, accounting for 82.4% of the total catchment area of the county's main streams and tributaries. Rongjiang river flows through the eastern edge of the county from north to South and flows through Dalang, Rongshui and heme pass through the river, with a total length of 65 kilometers and an average annual flow of 19.4 billion cubic meters. Among them, the main stream of Beijiang River is the longest, with a total length of 146 kilometers and a catchment area of 1762 square meters
