Gushi County, Gushi County, Henan Province, directly under the jurisdiction of Xinyang City. It is located in the southeast of Henan Province, at the junction of Henan and Anhui provinces, with Dabie Mountains in the South and Huaihe River in the north, covering a total area of 2946 square kilometers. As of 2018, Gushi County has 3 streets, 19 towns and 11 townships with a permanent resident population of 1096500.
Due to the four large-scale migration of population to the south in history, Gushi County became the origin and concentration place of immigrants from the Central Plains to Fujian and Taiwan, known as "hometown of Tang people, ancestral place of Fujian and Taiwan" and "the first hometown of overseas Chinese in the Central Plains". Chen Yuanguang, the "king of Kaizhang" in the early Tang Dynasty, Wang Shenzhi, the "king of Fujian" in the late Tang Dynasty, Zheng Chenggong, the national hero, Shi Lang, the Marquis of Jinghai, and Chen Jiageng, the patriotic overseas Chinese, were all from Gushi. It is one of the five regional central cities and ten pilot counties in Henan Province. On May 9, 2019, after the provincial special evaluation and inspection, Gushi County reached the standard of poverty alleviation and officially withdrew from the poverty county sequence.
In 2018, the GDP of Gushi County was 35.042 billion yuan, of which the added value of the primary industry was 7.389 billion yuan, the added value of the secondary industry was 10.943 billion yuan, the added value of the tertiary industry was 16.710 billion yuan, and the three industrial structure was 21.1:31.2:47.7.

The origin of place names
In ancient times, Gushi was a state of fan, Liao, Jiang and so on. It has a history of nearly 2000 years since the county was established. Liu Xiu, Emperor Guangwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty, adopted the idea of "if you want to make a good end, you must first consolidate the beginning", and granted Li Tong, the founder of the country, the Marquis of Gushi. Thus, Gushi got its name and has been followed up to now.
Evolution of organizational system
Gushi County was the core area of the state of Liao in the pre Qin period. The former capital of the state of Liao was located in liaochenggang in the northeast of today's Gushi city. Therefore, Gushi is known as "Liaocheng" and "Liaodu", and this county is called "Liaocheng" for short. In the 26th year of Jianwu in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Emperor Guangwu Liu Xiufeng Li Tong was the Marquis of Gushi (the solid Tongshi). The core area of Gushi Marquis's fiefdom (the state of Gushi Marquis) is now Gushi. Since then, the place name of Gushi has been used for nearly 2000 years.

In the middle of the spring and Autumn period, Chu destroyed all the States here and established Si county. At that time, Gushi was pan township of Si county, also known as suqiu city.

In the Western Han Dynasty, the county was set up in fan township.
In the 26th year of Jianwu in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Guangwu emperor Liu Xiufeng, the great Si Nong Li Tong, became the vassal state of Gushi, and established the vassal state of Gushi. As for the origin of Gushi, there are different opinions, such as "if you want to improve the end, you should consolidate the beginning first", "if you want to be firm, you must connect the beginning first", "if you want to be firm for a long time, you should start from then", "if you want to connect with the first thing of the emperor, you can consolidate the beginning".
Wars continued frequently in the southern and Northern Dynasties, and Qi and Liang belonged to Yuzhou. Before and after the Northern Qi, Liang and Northern Zhou dynasties, overseas Chinese set up beijianzhou, xincaijun and Huizhou.
In the Sui Dynasty, the county was abandoned, and it was subordinate to Yiyang County.
After the Tang Dynasty, it was established stably and was mostly under the jurisdiction of runing prefecture or Guangzhou. During this period, the commercial city (Yincheng) and Jisi were merged and separated again and again.
The two Song dynasties belong to Guangzhou, Huainan West Road (Gushi has long been located on the Southern Song side of the Song Jin saw line of Huaihe River).
In the Yuan Dynasty, it belonged to Guangzhou, runing Prefecture, Jiangbei Province, Henan Province.
In the fourth year of Hongwu (1371) of the Ming Dynasty, it was under the jurisdiction of Fengyang Prefecture of nanzhili, and in the fourteenth year of Hongwu (1381), it was under the jurisdiction of Si runing Prefecture of Henan governor.
In the Qing Dynasty, Gushi was mainly under the jurisdiction of Sinan Ruguang, the political envoy of Henan Province.
During the Republic of China, it was mainly under the jurisdiction of the ninth administrative supervision district of Henan Province.
In 1933, the national government assigned the area south of the Yangtze River in Gushi County to the newly established Lihuang county (now Jinzhai County) in Henan Province. The next year, Lihuang county was assigned to Anhui Province, and the land originally belonging to Gushi entered Anhui Province.
In September 1938, the Japanese army invaded Gushi from the north to the south. The Chinese Army rose to resist and annihilated about 10000 Japanese soldiers in the battle of fujinshan. On September 7, Gushi fell.
In 1947, the army of Liu and Deng leaped into the Dabie Mountains and crossed the Huaihe River from Sanhejian. On August 25 of that year, Gushi County was liberated for the first time.
On November 9, 1948, Gushi County was liberated.
In the early days of the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was subordinate to the Huangchuan special area. In 1952, Huangchuan special area was merged into Xinyang special area, and then it was merged into Xinyang special area.
In 1998, Xinyang was set up as a city and Gushi was its county.
On January 1, 2014, with the approval of the central editorial board, Henan provincial Party committee and Henan provincial government, Gushi officially became a county directly under the jurisdiction of Henan Province.
In January 2018, Gushi County officially returned to Xinyang City.

In the Ming Dynasty, Gushi County governed five townships: Zhonghe in the middle, Jian'an in the East, Qingfeng in the south, Dacheng in the west, and Yiai in the north. 5 Township jurisdiction 49 Li, 70 villages.
In the 11th year of Chenghua in the Ming Dynasty, when 32 Li southwest of the county was designated, the shopping mall was restored.
In the Qing Dynasty, the system of Township, neighborhood, Bao and Jia was implemented. The county governs four townships, named after their location, namely, Dongxiang, Xixiang, Nanxiang and BEIXIANG. It has jurisdiction over 124 insurance companies.
In the early years of the Republic of China, the county was divided into 10 districts: Chengguan District, Luoji District, guolutan District, huzupu District, Jiangji District, Liji District, changxingji District, mayuji District, Yangji district and Sanhejian district.
On May 4, 1931, the CPC Gushi County Party committee and the county Soviet government were formally established in songshugang (now Daying village, ChenLin town). In September of the same year, they moved to wangjialou (now suokou village, wumiao township). Under the jurisdiction of the county Soviet government, there are six districts and 48 townships, with a radius of more than 50 Li and a population of more than 50000. In October 1932, the main red army withdrew from the base area, and the Soviet Area in Gushi was lost.
In 1937, ten districts were merged into five districts. One to four district offices are in their original places, and five districts are changed to qiaogouji. There are 64 joint insurances and 378 insurances.
In 1940, 20 townships were set up.
In the autumn of the 36th year of the Republic of China (1947), some areas of Gushi County were liberated. Since then, with the expansion of the liberated areas, patriotic and democratic regimes have been established one after another. Gushi County (i.e. South Huogu county) was set up in mid October 1947. It has jurisdiction over the liberated areas in the south of the county and the north of Jinzhai, with four districts and one town.
In November 1948, Gushi was liberated, and the county patriotic democratic government governed nine administrative regions. The county has established more than 410 township level political power.
In the second half of 1949, from the original three districts Luoji divided into ten districts, set up Liji.
In December 1949, 10 districts were set up in the county, with a total of 448 townships, 14 towns and 22 streets.
On August 2, 1951, Huaibin County was newly established, and some townships of Qiaogou District, Qisi district and Jiangji district were included. On September 2, the county was transferred into 14 districts. The 14 districts have jurisdiction over 349 townships and 11 towns. In 1952, there were 359 townships and 9 towns. In 1953, there were 317 townships and 3 towns.
On April 20, 1954, Chengguan District was changed into a county town (Chengguan town), and 14 districts were changed into one district.
On November 19, 1955, three districts, daochaoji, wumiaoji and quanhepu, were abolished. At the same time, cancel the serial number of each area.
In August 1956, one town and 46 townships were set up.
On April 5, 1958, shahepu, Hongbu, huzupu, wangpeng, guolutan, duanji, chenlinzi, Liji, Jiangji and Luoji were designated as the central townships. On August 3, the county was under the jurisdiction of seven townships. In September, the township was transformed into a people's commune, with seven people's communes in the county. In November, 7 communes were merged into "Gushi people's commune", the former commune changed its name to administrative area, and its name was Xiyong.
In March 1959, the name of the commune in the administrative area was restored, except for the July 1 commune. Each commune has 46 administrative areas, 401 production teams and 3584 production teams. In June, the wumiao commune was abolished and four communes, duanji, chenlinzi, Jiangji and wangpeng, were added. The county governs 10 communes.
In August 1960, Huaibin County was abolished and four communes, XiangLiu, Qiaogou, Qisi and Zhangzhuang, were transferred to Gushi. The county governs 14 communes.
On September 5, 1961, the commune was changed into a district system, and the name of Qiyi commune was changed to "Fenshui district", while other districts used their old names. At the same time, 73 working films were changed into people's communes (also known as small communes, under the jurisdiction of the district).
In June 1962, Huaibin County was restored, and two districts, Qisi and Zhangzhuang, were divided into Huaibin County. At the same time, the district and small commune system will be abolished. The county is divided into one town and 27 communes.
In August 1975, three people's communes, Quanhe, Xuji and Zhaogang, were set up. County jurisdiction 1 town, 30 people's communes, 545 production brigade.
From May to December 1983, 29 agricultural communes in the county were changed into township system (still called Chuanmin commune). In May 1984, the Chuanmin commune was transformed into a shipping company under the jurisdiction of the County Transportation Bureau. County jurisdiction 1 town, 29 townships.
In 1987, Chen Lin, Li Ji, Jiang Ji and Xiang Liu were transformed into towns.
