Yugan county belongs to Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. Yugan county is located in the northeast of Jiangxi Province, on the southeast Bank of Poyang Lake and downstream of Xinjiang River. It borders Wannian County in the East, Yujiang District of Yingtan City and Dongxiang District of Fuzhou City in the south, Jinxian County, Xinjian district and Nanchang County of Nanchang City in the west, Poyang County in the north and Duchang County across the lake. The total area of the county is 2336 square kilometers. Yugan got its name from its location in Yushui. It was named Yuhan County in the early Western Han Dynasty, and it was renamed Yugan County in the Yongchu period of the Southern Song Dynasty. After the liberation of Yugan on May 7, 1949, it successively belonged to Poyang special area, Leping special area, Fuliang special area, Shangrao special area and Shangrao area. In October 2000, Shangrao area was set up as a city, and Yugan county was under the jurisdiction of Shangrao City. The county was named Yugan County in the name of the city and was subordinate to Jiujiang county.
