Shangbao terrace

Shangbao terrace is rated as "the largest Hakka terrace" by Shanghai grand World Guinness. It is one of the three major terraced wonders in China. It is 50 kilometers away from Chongyi county and 127 kilometers away from Ganzhou City. The terraces are built according to the mountain situation, covering hundreds of mu, and dotted with scattered villages.

During the cultivation period, the spring water irrigates layer by layer from the top of the mountain to the bottom of the mountain, and the colorful crops add infinite vitality to the terraces during the harvest period. This is the historical witness of Hakka people's long-term survival and development in the natural environment.

Shangbao terrace is located in the area of 148 square kilometers of Shangbao Township, 1741 meters above sea level around Huaxian peak, the second highest peak in southern Jiangxi. Tens of thousands of mu of terraces are scattered in the areas of Nanliu, Lianghe and Chishui around huaxianfeng. The vertical drop of terraces is nearly 1000 meters, and the highest field is 1260 meters above sea level. Some terraces continue from high to low, even reaching as many as 100 floors, just like long ladders, which are set up in the mountains and valleys, especially in Shuinan village. The surrounding terraces, high and low, pile up in layers and rush into the sky, which is amazing.

Historical legend

There is a beautiful legend about Shangbao terraces: one evening, two crazy guests passed by a thatched cottage shop in the northwest of Nan'an mansion. There is a woman in the shop who provides water, food and accommodation for passing guests. The two lunatics first drank a hundred bowls of tea and stacked them together. He ate another hundred bowls of rice and stacked them together. Looking back at the woman, she could see that they were still smiling after drinking too much and eating too much. The madman was very grateful and asked the woman, "what's the name of this place?" The shop woman sighed, "it's called Shangbao. It's a poor place with barren hills and barren hills and no land." The crazy guest gathered the tea bowl and rice bowl together, covered his stomach and said, "as well, one layer of mountains and one layer of fields, you can eat the castle people and become immortals." Knowing that the two men had some origins, the shop woman quickly said, "you can't live without mountains and fields, and you can't live without water." "It's good to have a bowl of distiller's grains," the man asked tentatively As expected, the shop woman brought out a bowl full of liqueur grains. When he picked up the kettle, he sifted the distiller's grains and read: "Shangbao, Shangbao, Shangshui is dense in the high mountains." The next day the shop woman invited the crazy guest up, but the two guests disappeared. Out of the door a look, far and near the hillside is full of layers of paddy fields, like a ladder upstairs. Later people called it "terrace".

The legend is beautiful, but it's hard to verify. The records of Shangbao terraces in historical books can be found in the book "Li Chongyi County Zhi Shu" written by Wang Shouren, the Deputy scholar and the censor of the Ming capital. According to the records of literature and history, Hakka ancestors who moved from Guangdong came to this barren mountain and built houses and dug up fields in order to make a living. If the slope is gentle, the land will be reclaimed. If the slope is steep and narrow, the land will be reclaimed. Even in the stone gap under the ridge, the land will be dug hard. From the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain, we don't waste an inch of earth and stone. Let them become fields and grow grain. This is also mentioned in Xu Guangqi's Complete Book of agricultural administration in Ming Dynasty. The terraces are like a heavy epic, which can witness the wisdom and sweat of Hakka ancestors. It has become a wonder of Hakka farming civilization. Since the first black-and-white photo of Li Xueming, a famous photographer in southern Jiangxi Province, was published in the newspaper in the 1970s, Shangbao terraces have gradually become famous all over the country. Every year, countless photographers, writers and painters come to Shangbao and walk into the terraces. With photos, color paintings and poems, the scenery of the mountains will be brought to the outside world, and the tourists will approach the upper Castle terraces one after another to enjoy the magnificent scenery.

Tour strategy

To visit terraces, it's best to go to lingdingzi, Nanliu village. Standing on the mountain, the top of the mountain at the foot of the front is full of overlapping terraces, layer by layer, row by row, quietly laid out in front of us, connecting the sky with the earth, exquisite and magnificent. The undulating ridges along the mountains are like ripples on the surface of a green lake. The terraces full of water are colorful, plump or slim. The dark green seedlings swayed in the wind, enjoying the mountain spring and sunshine. Here is a folk saying: "Shangbao, Shangbao, Shangshui Miaomiao on the top of the mountain." Because the forest coverage rate here is as high as 88.3%, and the spring is abundant, irrigation is not a problem even for the terraced fields on the top of the mountain. Due to the good ecological environment, few diseases and insect pests, and little application of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, the rice produced is crystal soft and popular in the market.

The most beautiful season of Shangbao terraces is spring sowing. At the end of May, before the cultivation of medium rice, the water in the terraces that have not yet been planted is like a mirror, reflecting the green mountains and blue sky, with the most abundant sense of hierarchy. The terraces after transplanting seedlings are green, and the irregular fields and regular green seedlings are poetic and picturesque. At the end of September, the rice in the terraced fields was golden. Under the strong wind in the mountains, the flowing rice waves played the Sanskrit music of heaven and earth, melodious and intoxicating.

In the terraced landscape of Shangbao Township, there are many scenic spots, such as the former site of the historical event of "Shangbao training" in Zhude, huaxianfeng nunnery and so on; there are many tourist attractions, such as wanzhang Mountain Alpine grass garden, Chishui huaxianfeng, warm water hot spring, Shuinan Hakka folk custom provincial photography culture base and so on. There are also "Shangbao hunting wine", "red rice porridge", "chishuixian tea" and other specialties, known inside and outside the province.

Shangbao township has set up a leisure tour of farmhouse, which allows tourists to eat farmhouse food, live in farmhouse, do interesting farm work, wash natural hot springs, enjoy the wonders of terraced fields, and have a unique Hakka folk song duet bonfire party.

Travel Tips

1. To Ganzhou: the Beijing Kowloon railway passes through Ganzhou, and the Guangdong Jiangxi expressway has been opened to traffic. There are high-speed buses to Ganzhou in the surrounding cities, and there are airplanes flying to Ganzhou in Nanchang and Guangzhou. You can choose the high-speed bus of airplane train.

2. Ganzhou to Chongyi County, Ganzhou bus station, Ganzhou south bus station take bus to Chongyi county (the whole journey is about 40 minutes, every 30 minutes)

3. Chongyi to Shangbao Township, the whole cement road. Five trains a day, 8 o'clock at the earliest and 15 o'clock at the latest. The journey is one and a half hours, and the ticket price is 13 yuan.

4. Shangbao is a prosperous town on the border of Hunan and Jiangxi. You can eat and live in the town. From the town to Shuinan Village (Nanliu Village), it is a cement road. You can go there by motorcycle. There are many farmhouses in Shuinan village.
