Dayuantong hall is the main hall of the temple, known as "living hall", which worships the 8.8-meter-high Pilu Guanyin. brief introduction
The predecessor of Puji Buddhist temple was not willing to go to Guanyin temple. It was founded in Xiantong period of Tang Dynasty. Later, Shenzong of Song Dynasty renamed it "Baotuo Guanyin Temple" in 1080, which was dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva, and the incense began to flourish. During the Jiading period of the Southern Song Dynasty, the emperor granted a plaque of "Yuantong hall" and designated Mount Putuo as a Taoist temple for Guanyin. Later, in the early Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang banned the destruction of the temple by sea, until the 33rd year of Wanli (1605) of the Ming Dynasty, the imperial court appropriated funds for reconstruction, and granted the imperial edict to build "the Putuo temple to protect the country and live forever", making Puji Temple the largest temple in the south of the Yangtze River at that time. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, the temple was trampled on by the Dutch colonial invaders and plundered. In 1689, after the Haijiang subsided, Kangxi ordered to renovate and expand the scale. By the ninth year of Yongzheng (1731), most of the buildings were completed during this period. After the Anti Japanese War, monasteries were in depression and fall; during the cultural revolution, the Buddha statues were destroyed and the monks were demobilized. In 1979, it began to restore the original appearance and rebuilt the statues and pavilions of Buddha such as the avalokitesvara of Pilu, forming today's scale.
