Shanghai Entomological Museum has a long history. Its predecessor is the Sinian Museum, which was built in 1868. At that time, it was the first in the Far East to store animal and plant specimens produced in China. It is known as "the British Museum of Asia". After more than 100 years of pioneering work and development, we have collected more than 1 million insect specimens from all over the country, and preserved a large number of endangered and rare insect specimens and international and domestic dangerous quarantine pest specimens. It is a large professional insect museum in China. The treasure of the town hall is Helena flash butterfly, known as the most beautiful butterfly in the world. In addition, it also collects specimens from Japan, Philippines, Annan (Vietnam), Siam (Thailand), Malaysia and other places. The museum is divided into insect life hall, insect culture hall, insect world hall, insect projection hall and interactive laboratory
Shanghai Insect Museum, Chinese Academy of Sciences
Shanghai insect museum is affiliated to Shanghai Institute of life sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Its predecessor was the insect Department of Shanghai's Museum Heude, which was built by French priest P. Heude in 1868. It was built in Xujiahui in 1883. Later, due to the large number of specimens, it could not be stored. In 1930, a new Sinian museum was built in Luban Road (now Chongqing South Road). At that time, the storage of animal and plant specimens produced in China was the first in the Far East, which was known as "the British Museum in Asia".
In 1953, it belonged to Shanghai Institute of Entomology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and in 2001, it was incorporated into Institute of plant physiology and ecology, Academy of life sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
History of the Pavilion
Shanghai Insect Museum has a long history. Its predecessor is the Sinian Museum, which was built in 1868. At that time, a French priest came to Shanghai to preach. His Chinese name is Han Bolu. He is a naturalist and mainly collects all kinds of animal and plant specimens, ores, furniture, etc. Later, because there were too many specimens to be stored, the Sinian museum was built at the intersection of South Chongqing Road and Hefei Road in 1930, including exhibition room, research room, laboratory, library, etc. At that time, the collection of Chinese animal and plant specimens was the first in the Far East. In addition, specimens from Japan, the Philippines, Annan (Vietnam), Siam (Thailand), Malaysia and other places were also collected, which was known as the British Museum of Asia.
After liberation, it was taken over by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2002, the Shanghai Entomological Museum was established, and the new museum was built with a special fund of 20 million yuan jointly invested by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of science and technology, the academy and the Institute. At present, the collection of insect specimens is one of the largest in China. Entomological Museum is the only Entomological Museum in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which integrates scientific research, specimen collection and popular science education.
Exhibition area
Insect life hall
Following the insect marks on the ground, we enter this colorful "time and space tunnel". Going through the tunnel is like going through billions of years of time and space, experiencing the long evolution of life on earth from scratch, from simple to complex, from low to high, from aquatic to terrestrial. Primitive insects appeared in the Silurian period of Phanerozoic Paleozoic, more than 400 million years ago. Winged insects appeared in the Carboniferous period, which is 36000 years ago. They are the earliest aviators in the animal kingdom.
Insect world hall
This paper mainly introduces 34 orders of Insecta and the main representative insects of each order. After visiting, you will be amazed at the diversity of insect species. The taxonomic tree of insects simply and clearly shows the status of each order. The insects at the bottom are relatively primitive and low, and appear earlier. The higher they develop to the top, the higher they are, and the later they appear.
Insect and human Hall
Song insects are a special group of insects. Because of their peculiar pronunciation structure, they can communicate with each other through sound. There are many folk lovers of song insects in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Beijing and Tianjin. They make friends with insects and have formed a kind of insect culture. Therefore, we hope to systematically show this long history of insect culture to the audience. Therefore, Shanghai insect museum specially organized and planned this exhibition. The theme of the exhibition is the chirping insects in nature. It mainly involves six aspects: the culture of chirping insects, the types of chirping insects, the sound producing principle of various chirping insects, the content and function of chirping insects, the sound receptor of chirping insects, the bionics of human chirping insects, the breeding of chirping insects, and the protection of natural resources.

Fine art
The aboriginal circle represents auspiciousness, wealth and happiness. We often see insects on our clothes and pictures. Of course, the most common one is the butterfly. Because the butterfly is the most beautiful, it is called "flying flower". Here are all handicrafts made of flash butterfly wings from Brazil. These butterflies are not found in our country. They are very beautiful. These colors are completely natural and have different luster at different angles. (opposite the butterfly exhibition box) these butterflies are the most expensive butterflies in the world, all of which are protected by the Convention on international trade in endangered species of Wild Fauna and flora.
Cricket culture
This is China's insect culture, that is, cricket culture, because cricket fighting has a very long history. As early as 2500 years ago in the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, Chinese ancients described in the book of songs the image of "July in the field, August in the universe, September in the house, October crickets into my bed". In the Song Dynasty, Jia Sidao, the prime minister, was also called the cricket prime minister by historians. However, he wrote the world's first monograph on crickets, the book of promoting weaving. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, from Princes and nobles to common people, from the old to the three foot children, all enjoyed playing with insects. Therefore, in China, crickets have become a culture with a long history. Here are some utensils, such as a Deng scale for weighing crickets, a water basin for drinking water, a rice board for eating, and a bridal chamber for crickets to mate. This is the place for crickets to fight. There is a horizontal gate in the middle. Divide the fight into two areas. If the horizontal gate is removed, the two insects can fight face to face. In Macao and other places, if a cricket brings huge profits to its boss, it will be buried in a small coffin after its death.
Others include: insects and idioms, insects and folk butterfly wing paintings, insects and stamps, etc.
