Shouling Temple
Shouling temple is a Gelug Temple of Tibetan Buddhism. Located in Xindu town, Luhuo County, Ganzi Prefecture, on the hillside of "sedeng Longran Su" on the North Bank of fresh water, it is one of the "Hall thirteen temples". In Tibetan, Ling means long life and peace.
Shouling temple, originally known as Gadan raodeng langjiling (meaning contented heaven eternal descending Temple), was founded in 1650. It was destroyed by earthquakes several times in history. Later it was renamed holzhanggu temple, and then Shouling temple.
The origin of history
Shouling temple has been relocated three times since it was first built. It was destroyed by the earthquake in 1973 and moved to the area between ransugang and sedelong, two kilometers north of the county seat. The construction of Shouling temple was started in 1983 and completed in September 1988.
At present, the temple has a construction area of more than 14000 square meters. It has built a main hall (three floors) for Sakyamuni Buddha, a auspicious Hall (two floors), 277 Buddhist rooms, 246 permanent monks, and walongchi Zhijiang baqiza as the living Buddha. It is one of the main places for religious and Buddhist activities in Luhuo county. It was opened in 1982 with the approval of the state people's government. According to the records of the temple, the largest scale of Shouling temple in history was the period when it was moved to shangetanong, Laojie, about three kilometers south of the county seat, in 1651.
Buddhist activities
Buddhist activities in Shouling Temple mainly include "Mulang", "genrou", "qiongchi", "gongre" and "gadeng anque". The largest is the "Mulang" Dharma Association, which is held from January 8 to January 20 of the Tibetan calendar every year. At that time, tens of thousands of people come to listen to the Scriptures, and the scene is grand, which has a great influence on the religious masses.
Cultural relics in the temple
Shouling temple has a long history and rich cultural relics. It is said that the 3-meter-high silver Buddha statue of Sakyamuni, the main Buddha, was collected by the fifth Dalai Lama's craftsmen. The gold-plated bronze Buddha that was welcomed back from India in 1995 is also very precious.
Many precious scriptures, Hanfeng "zhaoka" and those lifelike murals preserved in the temple are the best testimony to the exquisite Tibetan culture.
Prosperous period
At its peak, the building area reached 10000 square meters, with more than 500 houses and 13 Scripture halls. Under its jurisdiction, there are 4 riche (sutras) and 17 sub temples. And then it was demolished. The whole building of the courtyard is divided into upper, middle and lower floors. It is built close to the mountain. The main building is the central Sutra hall and the main hall. The Sutra hall can hold more than 2000 people chanting sutras at the same time. Murals reflecting the chieftain family in Luhuo area are painted around the outer wall of the Sutra hall.
Opening to the outside world
It was approved to open in 1982, and the main hall was restored after 1984.
Shouning temple is located in the high mountain gorge zone, with an annual average temperature of 11.5 ℃ to 12.8 ℃. The average temperature of the coldest month is below - 5 ℃, the average temperature of the hottest month is 10 ℃ to 12.1 ℃, and the lowest temperature of the whole year is January, which can reach 27 ℃.
