It is one of the existing pre war police stations in the new territories. After China and Britain signed the "special clause on the extension of Hong Kong boundary" in 1898 to lease land in the new territories, the Deng people in Pingshan had many violent struggles with the British army. In view of the need to build a police station to maintain law and order and provide government services, Pingshan police station was built the following year to serve as a police base in Northwest New Territories.
In 1965, Yuen Long District police station was completed and put into operation. The current site was changed to the headquarters and training center of the police dog force. In 1997, the government and the Deng people reached an agreement to transform the building into a Deng Heritage Museum in Pingshan, which will also serve as a visitor center of Pingshan Heritage Trail. At the end of 2002, the site was officially handed over to the leisure and Cultural Services Department and was classified as a class III heritage building. The Architectural Services Department has spent HK $12 million on renovation, preservation and repair of most of the old facilities.
The old police station is composed of three buildings. The main building is a double-layer building with an arched corridor. The external wall is white, and the roof is followed by a lookout. The two-story Wing building in the north is connected with the main building. It also has a white external wall, an open corridor and a golden tile roof. Two chimneys stand on the roof, overlooking the Tang clan ancestral hall, the Juxing building and the imperial library.
