brief introduction
Yongjing township is located in the southeast of the central part of Changhua County, Taiwan, with flat terrain and no mountains or lakes. It is adjacent to Yuanlin town and Puxin Township in the north, Shetou Township in the East, xibinhu town in the West and Tianwei Township in the south.
The origin of place names
The place name of Yongjing was named by Yang Guisen in 1813 (the 18th year of Jiaqing). It has been changed several times. In addition to the historical records, there are also different statements from the historical records
1、 In 1813 (the 18th year of Jiaqing), the kenmin of Chaozhou Prefecture in Guangdong Province set up a market in the area. At that time, the kenmin was named Yongjing, hoping that the area and nearby residents could coexist peacefully (at that time, there were frequent fights between Fujian and Guangdong), and that the City would be peaceful forever. Yongjing was originally the name of Yongjing market. It was about today's Yongdong and Yongxi villages. Later, it was named after the market as the town.
2、 In the early days of the Japanese occupation, it was changed to Guandi hall, representing the place name of the area. The name of Guandi hall was mentioned in both 1813 (the 18th year of Jiaqing) and Daoguang years (Volume 11 of Zhanghua county annals, Daoguang Edition / miscellaneous records / war disaster: "Yuanlin, together with Cantonese people, moved to Xinzhuang, Dapu and Guandi hall one after another...").
3、 In 1920, Japan carried out the reform of local administrative regions, changing the three character place name to two character place name, and naming it back to the old name Yongjing, but the implication has been changed to "frequent floods, in order to stop the floods and keep peace forever"
4、 In the past, fires were frequent in this area, and old houses were often burnt down and new houses were built. The local residents suffered from the fire, so the place name was changed to "Yongjing", which means "forever Anjing". Banyan trees were planted at the intersection of Yongjing street and Zhongshan Road, and "Yongdian Palace" and "Yongfu Palace" were built at both ends of Yongjing street. The fire gradually decreased.
history
During the Qing Dynasty, Yongjing belonged to wuxibao in the administrative area. In 1813 (the 18th year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty), the kenmin of Chaozhou Prefecture in Guangdong Province set up a market here. In the early days of the Japanese occupation, most of Yongjing belonged to guanditing District, while the west of Yongjing belonged to luocuo district or haifenglun district. In 1920, it was divided into Yongjing village of Yuanlin County, Taichung Prefecture, and the administrative region of Yongjing was established. In 1945, it was changed to "Yongjing township" in Yuanlin District of Taichung County. In 1950, it was changed to Yongjing township of Changhua County.

humanity
From the perspective of ethnology, about 70% of the people who lived in Yongjing came from Raoping County, Chaozhou Prefecture, Guangdong Province. However, most of the people who lived in Changhua plain, where the majority of the people lived in Southern Fujian, had already become minnanized. In 1937 (the 12th year of Showa), the Japanese scholar Chuang Si jiuxiao used the population data as the geographical study of Taiwan's population. He found that the population density of Yongjing township was more than 500 people per square kilometer, ranking first in the rural areas of the island.
There is a special "Yongjing tune" in the language. The following sentences are often used to show the different pronunciation of Yongjing people's Taiwanese (Eng rhymes such as Yong, Jing, Bing, Leng and Bing all turn to en rhymes), "Yongjing zhizibing, Leng and Bing".
Geography
In the north of Changhua county is the coastal plain of Changhua uplift, in the south is the alluvial plain of zhuoshuixi, and in the south is the Bagua mountain range with a slope of 5% to 55%. Yongjing township is located in the Changhua plain of the three. The terrain has the same flow direction as the babaozhen stream, and it drops gently from southeast to northwest. The average elevation of Yongjing township is about 20 meters. The soil is mainly composed of old clayey slate alluvial soil and a small part of new clayey slate alluvial soil. The soil is neutral.
Because of the rich groundwater in the alluvial plain of the chuoshui River, the saturated layer is very close to the ground, and the depth between the ground and the groundwater level is only two to four meters. As a result, there are springs in the low-lying areas of the township. The soil is often too soft, and the farmers' feet sink into the mud, reaching to their knees or thighs, which makes farming inconvenient.
The main irrigation water source of Yongjing township is shiwuzhuang canal, which was built by Huang Shiqing in 1721 (the 60th year of Kangxi reign). The source is near ershuibitou (on the left side of Babao canal mouth), which leads Zhuoshui River into the canal to make the water flow westward and irrigate the villages on both sides of the canal. The villages flowing through Yongjing Township include Xizhuang, Guandi Temple (Hall), du'ao, Tongan house, lunziwei, Fuxing and zhuzijiao.
In 1862 (the early years of Tongzhi), the people invested money to repair the fifteen villages, and elected representatives Wu Junshan, Wei Shangying (who was the head of Yongjing village during the Japanese occupation) and Wei Jingren (the son of Wei Shangying) to manage them in turn.
In 1907 (the 40th year of Meiji), shiwuzhuang was incorporated into babaozhen. The former babaozhen was renamed the first babaozhen, and shiwuzhuang was renamed the second babaozhen. At present, the main waterways in Yongjing Township, such as Jiuzhen, Fuzhen, chencuocuocuo drainage Road, XiPai drainage Road, lunziwei drainage branch, sikuacuo branch and so on, all belong to the second channel.
The water source of Yongjing Township comes from the Zhuoshui stream at the southern foot of Hehuan mountain. The stream contains a large amount of "clay slate", so the stream water is black gray.
