Li Shutong's former residence was officially opened in 2012. It is a Qing Dynasty building in the shape of a field, with a history of 150 years.
In the elegant courtyard, there are Tongda bank, Buddha Hall, living room, foreign study, Chinese study and Yiyuan.
In the former residence, the green tiles and grey walls, the vermilion door frames and the windows are full of traditional culture.

Former residence of Li Shutong
Li Shutong's former residence, originally located at No. 60, Liangdian street, Hebei District, is a large courtyard composed of four quadrangles built in the Qing Dynasty. The plane is shaped like a field, with more than 60 rooms, covering an area of 1400 square meters. There are corridors and small gardens in the courtyard, with exquisite interior furnishings and elegant environment. In the courtyard, there is a western style study, named "Yiyuan", which was built by Li Shutong when he returned from Japan in 1910 to show his ambition. The courtyard is surrounded by garden corridors, carved beams and painted columns. The interior furnishings are exquisite, and the environment is elegant and pleasant. It is a wonderful flower in the former residence of famous people in Jinmen. Later, due to the complexity and disrepair of the residents, No. 60, back street of the grain store gradually lost its original appearance.
On December 31, 2007, Tianjin municipal government started the reconstruction of Li Shutong's former residence on the original site of laoliangdian back street. After that, the interior of the former residence was decorated and arranged, and the "Hongyi Master Li Shutong's Former Residence Memorial" was established. It was officially opened to the public on December 30, 2011.
The rebuilt Memorial Hall of Li Shutong's former residence is located at the intersection of Haihe East Road and Binhai Road, Hebei District, Tianjin, covering a total area of 4000 square meters, which is divided into two parts: landscape and former residence.
Basic introduction
Li Shutong, a famous Hongyi mage and Pinghu native, was a pioneer of the new culture movement in modern China and a famous Buddhist monk. He was born in a scholarly family. He was well versed in the past and the present. He once went to Fusang to specialize in music and painting. He founded the first Chinese drama club "Chunliu club" and starred in such famous dramas as "the lady of Camellia" and "the black slave calling on heaven". Later, he became a monk in Hupao temple in Hangzhou, and went south to Quanzhou, Fujian Province. He devoted his whole life to studying the Buddhist precepts and eventually became a great master.
The master spent his youth at No. 60, Liangdian street, Hebei District, Tianjin. He left after he was 20 years old. It was there that he accumulated and consolidated his literary and artistic foundation.
The restoration of the former residence was completed in October 2010. The memorial hall of Li Shutong Hongyi's former residence was built in the former residence and opened to the public free of charge.
The memorial hall of Li Shutong's former residence is a national 3A tourist attraction and a municipal patriotism education base. The memorial consists of two parts: the former residence and the garden, covering a total area of 4000 square meters. The former residence covers an area of 1400 square meters. The main body of the building, the indoor furnishings and the outdoor cultural landscape are reconstructed according to the historical data. It is mainly of traditional wood structure, with four courtyards and "Tian" shaped residential pattern. Li Shutong was born in 1880 in Tianjin into a family of Jinshi salt merchants. As a child, he had a wide range of knowledge. When he was young, he was good at poetry, painting, writing and engraving. From 1905 to 1910, he studied western painting and music at Ueno art school in Tokyo, Japan. In 1913, he was the music and art teacher of Zhejiang First Normal University, and also the music and art teaching of Nanjing Normal University. During that time, he joined the Nanshe and became a famous artist.
In 1918, he became a monk in Hupao temple in Hangzhou. His name was Hongyi. He often lives in Nanputuo, Xiamen, Chengtian and Tianyuan temples in Quanzhou. He is famous for his abstinence, determined to revive Nanshan law school, sorted out its works, and founded Nanshan law school. There are many Buddhist works, such as the records of the four divisions of the law, biqiu's precepts, the outline of Nanshan's law at home and so on, as well as the collection of nursing students' paintings, the song of three treasures, and the song of cool. After becoming a monk, he gave calligraphy to others to promote Buddhism.
He died in Kaiyuan Temple, Quanzhou, Fujian in 1942. After his death, he was honored as the 11th ancestor of Zhongxing Nanshan law school.

Reconstruction of original appearance
Li Shutong's former residence is an old courtyard building built in the late Qing Dynasty. The courtyard in the shape of "Tian" in the Qing Dynasty is divided into two parts: North and south. It has a garden and a western style "foreign study" for Li Shutong to rest, practice calligraphy and painting, and receive visitors. Although the whole courtyard is not large, it is elegant, clear and open, which makes people linger.
The restoration project of Li Shutong's former residence was officially started on December 31, 2007 at the west side of the intersection of Haihe East Road and Binhai Road, Hebei District, Tianjin. The head of the office of Haihe economic development leading group said that although Li Shutong's former residence no longer exists, the restoration of the former residence will be reconstructed according to the photo data. Its size, shape and decoration style are the same as the former residence. However, the foundation of the new former residence will be 90cm high on the basis of the original one.
After the reconstruction of the former residence, it has become a "new study" for cultural exchanges and exhibitions. The restoration of the former residence is designed according to the principle of "the front door faces east, the back door faces Haihe, and the former residence faces south". It covers an area of more than 4000 square meters. It is composed of the former residence and the attached garden, and is designed by Suzhou garden design Institute to maintain the architectural scale and style of the original residence. The remaining building materials of Li Shutong's former residence were used in the memorial hall project, and facilities such as Hongyi master Memorial Pavilion and statue were built in the garden. The memorial hall of Li Shutong Hongyi's former residence was built in the former residence, which was officially opened to the public on December 30, 2011.
The exhibits in the former residence museum show the outstanding achievements of the master in poetry, CI, calligraphy and painting, seal cutting, music, drama, literature, Buddhism and other fields.
