Cave landscape
Benxi Water Cave is a large-scale water filled cave formed hundreds of thousands of years ago. It is located on the Bank of Taizi River in the eastern mountainous area of Benxi City, Liaoning Province. It is a water filled cave with two parts of water and drought. The entrance of Benxi Water Cave is 16 meters high and 25 meters wide. It is in the shape of a half moon. Bo Yibo's handwriting "Benxi Water Cave" is engraved on the top. The entrance is a magnificent "reception hall" with a height of more than 20 meters and a width of more than 20 meters, which can accommodate thousands of people. To the right of the hall, there is a dry cave, 300 meters long. The caves are scattered high and low. There are holes in the cave, zigzag and blurred, and each cave has its own sky.
As far back as 570 million years ago, Benxi Shuidong area was once a vast ocean. During this period, the climate was warm, and a large number of stalagmites, brachiopods, gastropods and echinozoans were bred and derived. All the family groups conformed to the laws of nature to carry out their own regeneration. Due to the hydrodynamic washing and turbid sinking, their bodies deposited different types of biological carbonates and chemical carbonates. The limestone of Benxi Shuidong was developed by diagenesis in the lower Ordovician Liangshan formation and the Middle Ordovician Majiagou formation. Later, due to the movement of the earth's crust, the sea water receded, and the platform slowly rose to land. Limestone in the geological movement by external force, constantly on limestone dissolution, accumulated over time, after hundreds of millions of years, it gradually developed into today's water cave. This kind of dissolution is still going on.
The origin of Benxi
Benxi is located in the mountainous area of Eastern Liaoning Province, where the mountains are high and the forests are dense. It is an important water conservation area in Eastern Liaoning Province, with many rivers. Benxi is really the "source of water". However, the origin of the name "Benxi" has another origin.
Benxi is named after Benxi lake. Benxi lake is located in the city, less than 15 square meters, can be said to be the world's smallest lake. Although the lake is small, it is also famous. It was once listed in the ten scenic spots of Guandong. In the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, the book "Benxi Lake in Liaodong", written by Gao Shengxian, was carved in stone at the mouth of the lake. Beside the lake, there is an ancient Cihang temple. It was built in the late Ming Dynasty, and the Sanskrit incense was once very popular. This lake is surrounded by mountains and peaks. It is wide outside and narrow inside. It is very similar to a wine cup made of rhinoceros horn, so it is called "cup rhinoceros Lake" and homonymous with "Benxi Lake". From then on, the city was named after the lake. Benxihu city was established in 1939. After the founding of new China, the word "Lake" was removed and named Benxi City.
Benxi has a long history. The ancient human cultural sites excavated in miaohoushan show that the human ancestors lived and multiplied here in the Paleolithic age 400000 to 500000 years ago. It not only fills the gap of Paleolithic human fossils in Northeast China, but also provides valuable historical data for the study of human distribution and migration in Northeast Asia.
