Tongmai Town: the administrative name is Tongmai small market town, which is a subordinate natural village of Yigong Township, Bomi county. The center of the small market town is 2081m above sea level. Located in the middle of Bomi County, Linzhi City, Tibet Autonomous Region, in the south of Tibet Yigong National Geopark, it is a small town of service nature formed by Sichuan Tibet highway. Nearby is the confluence of the main trunk of palongzangbo and yigongzangbo, with subtropical and alpine climate. Tongmai: it is said that in 1989, it was officially called (more in line with Tibetan pronunciation) Tangmai Town, but people still used to call it Tongmai.

Take national highway 318, pass through Tongmai and go to Pailong Township, Lulang town and Bayi Town. After passing Tongmai street, Tongmai natural danger and Pailong natural danger (in Pailong township) are famous precipitous, with a total length of 14 km.

Tongmai is so special in geographical and geological features that it is designated as Tibet Yigong National Geopark by the state. The planning area includes the geological and geomorphic landscapes such as Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, PALONG Zangbo Grand Canyon, Xumu ancient glacier relics and guxianggou debris flow, 102 landslide group, Layue landslide, peilonggou debris flow, and geological disaster relics. This area is known as "the second largest debris flow group in Asia" (Zhouqu County, Gansu Province is known as the largest landslide and debris flow prone area in Asia).

Renovation and reconstruction: Tongmai natural insurance and pailonggou natural insurance (connected), the "intestinal obstruction" reconstruction project, started at the end of 2012, including the construction of Tongmai bridge, pailonggou bridge and several tunnels. The original 20 kilometers of rotten roads have been reduced to more than 5 kilometers, replaced by tunnels through mountains and bridges across rivers.

Tongmai town is located in the central part of Bomi County, Tibet Autonomous Region, near the confluence of palongzangbo trunk and Yigong Zangbo, which is the starting point of the Indian Ocean tropical water and gas flowing into the Yarlung Zangbo River Grand Canyon rapidly spreading northward.

The palongzangbo Grand Canyon (the third largest canyon in the world) alone has different climatic characteristics due to different altitudes.

Tongmai town is located in a gorge area, and the surrounding mountains have different climates. Here, the subtropical climate is below 2700 meters above sea level, the plateau temperate climate is below 2700-4300 meters, and the frigid climate is above 4300 meters.

Abundant rainfall often washes down the rocks on both sides of the valley, similar to the situation in the history of Motuo highway.

The Sichuan Tibet line passes through Tongmai town. The section of the road starting from Tongmai temporary bridge (at the tail of the Yigong Zangbu River) is extremely difficult. From Bomi county to Pailong Township and Lulang Town, Pailong natural danger is next to Tongmai natural danger. Pailong natural danger is famous for its precipitous and unique features. In history, it is called "dead road" together with Tongmai. PALONG (PAI long, Li Long) is a famous natural danger on the Sichuan Tibet line.
